Hi chaps out shooting as I pen this ... Just tried to climb a bank and foot to the floor , no guts or power at all.. The motors running lovely and smooth no problems !! What can it be??? The 3lt should have loads of power surely ? Help please chaps thanks rob

Power loss

I've unplugged the maf cable and done another hill start .. Still the same ,amost stalls no grunt.. Even with the maf unplugged on the flat motor still runs smooth.. What should I try next?? And please remember I have v little knowledge on engines etc .. Thanks in advance rob

Maf

Sorry chaps tried it with and with out the maf sensor plugged in... It goes up the hill better without the cable plugged in?? But is not as smooth on the road..is there any defo way of telling if the maf needs changing? I'm meant to be towing my daughter s horse / trailer on Sunday!! Worried now.. Will the car parts shop tell me exactly what one this model needs?? 2005 3lt model

Loss of power

Does the maf control the turbo? My turbo seems to kick I around 3000 rpm.. When the maf s unplugged it doesn't seem to come on at all? Cheers rob

Exhaust

Don't think the exhaust is damaged.. Haven't knock it!! Will check tommorrow though cheers rob

Maf

Hi where's the best place to buy one?? Couldn't see any markings/brand name on it .. How can I tell which make to buy?? Does the maf really make that much difference to the low end power of the engine? Does any one know when you should hear the turbo cut in?? And when it does should you be able to hear a distinct whistle noise?? Thanks rob

MAF does ALL it's work sub 3000 rpm I think. Once over 3000 engine managment has a rest while the fuel pump goes nuts pooring in loads of go juice :lol
Turbo should come in around 1800/2000 rpm on the 2.7 not sure it'll be that different on the 3.0
So it could well be the MAF and the default map on the ecu is just keeping the engine going in safe mode. I'd have thought the EML would come on though with a failed maf.
It could be a fueling issue . Has is it had a recent fuel filter change ?
Does it run ok at 3000 plus ?

Maf

Yes mate new fuel filter last week ..ever since I bought it I thought it was underpowered , if I put front wheels against a high kerb and try and get over it in 1st gear it runs out of power!! I thought by giving her a full service etc it would improve.. As posted before I also cleaned the maf with maf cleaner!! I now wonder if it was knackered when I bought it??? When you say fuel problem any thing that I could check or would it be my machanic ? Cheers rob

Cheap fuel filters are known to be a problem, also failure to get a good seal on them can allow air to be sucked in.
Check filter make and seal on housing.
How exactly did you clean the MAF ? They're very delicate inside and it doesn't take much to damage a filament in there

another suggestion is to swap your maf for a used one that is known to be ok before you purchase a new one

Maf

6 squirts at a distance from the cleaner can... As I say the bottom end power was not good before the new filter was fitted..shall I try and buy a new maf from motor factors or similar they can normally get stuff next day.?

sounds like the MAF to me, get a new one, all will be well im sure.
