Hi guys haven't been around for a while as I've sold my trusty t2!

I went away and bought a ford galaxy 2002 for my ever expanding family 3 kids under the age of 3 and 14 year old !

What a big mistake !! The car that is lol

Lovely size but shit everything else

So my thoughts have turned back to jap and back to nissan and I've seen a few patrols floating around for decent money

How good and reliable are they ?

I will be going down to Italy in the summer the rest of the time floating around local that's about it so fuel consumption not a massive importance

More reliability size and comfort to be honest any patrol owners please chip in

Cheers guys

6 pot 2.8 smooth though not particularly fast im told by owners

try jocky he has or had one for many years, might need to pm him.

which is the one that needs the engine mod ? :nenau

At a guess I think that's probably the early 3.0td engines you're thinking of briggie, they had a bad reputation from when they were introduced in 2000 until around 2003 (the Aussie's refer to them as grenade engines) when Nissan started fitting them in the Terrano and got their act together and pretty much sorted the problems. The 3.0td Patrols are generally considered a safe bet from 2004 onwards... which is why mine is a '54 plate!

Generally the problems were related to the MAF sensor and overboosting there are a number of mods you can do to give you an early warning/prevent anything bad happening. There's quite a few guys on the patrol forums that reckon you only need to make the mods if you're messing with the engine in the first place though eg. larger exhaust, blanking egr etc, so if you don't touch it (and maybe give the MAF sensor a wee clean now and again) you'll be okay... which is why I'm not touching it! :lol

The only thing I've heard about the 2.8td engine is that it's a bit numb.

I'd be interested to know real life mpg figures from patrol owners, both the 2.8 and 3.0 litre engines. I have considered the patrol for when I eventually have to face the task of replacing the terrano.

typically got about 22mpg from my 3.0tdi solo or towing, sounds odd but solo would be urban
or fast road versus steady tow.

check out Jocky's signature, certainly done some mods including a power box

(Y61) Patrol 2.8TD6 SE Touring.DPT Box. Ironman Nitro Shocks OME Springs 20mm lift front, 30mm lift rear. 33" General Grabber AT's, Airtec Snorkel, EGR Mod. 2.5" Stainless Exhaust

That's what I started out at :(... but I've been working on a better result!

Now generally manage 24-26mpg on a mix of motorway driving, country roads, town driving and 4wd round the fields at the farm :thumb2
