Fitting one to a terrano with heavy modification to make it fit :nenau

If for example one could be married up, this would open up a whole world for more lifting right as cv joints would not be stressed like std terrano ones? :nenau

You can see where I am going with this :naughty

Oh p.s. No "buy a patrol" comments either :lol

Would cost a fortune as I don't think there is a solid front axle that is just a straight fit.
Have a look on you tube for terrano sas.

Get a Trol :D
In the mean time just google Terrano SAS
Loads of work for not that much gain really. Due to the fact the radius arms will be relatively short , there's not much room for any more travel really. So you end up spending a grand or so and still end up with a stiff front end. PLUS you then have a diff in the dirt  So then you need even bigger tyres to sort that etc etc
35s on my T2 is doable and my CV joints are fine, well they were :augie

Live front axles don't have CV joints Alex so that problem is gone:thumb2 it is a lot of work but seems to becoming a more common mod over in europe:augie not sure what axle they use etc but heres some pic's for you Alex but please go & get your tissues first:lol:lol:naughty

No one has to say get a trol you envied the engine now the front axle it's clear you long for a troll. Spend a couple of grand on them terranos and they about the same as a patrol in standared trim. Alex you talked about lifting big a while back Australia do an 8 inch sus lift for mine and a 4 inch body lift . Think what size wheels you could fit then.

Alex mate, never mind the amount of work, have you thought how about you're going to pay for the labour since you haven't really done much of the work so far yourself and, as you used to say in your signature, bad things happen when you get hold of a spanner? :nenau :doh

Mate, enthusiasm is great but hud yer horses and lets think sensibly...

Oh, and just get a Trol :thumbs

:lol I knew the trol comments were unavoidable :lol

I love my terrano and will be keeping atleast for another 3/5 years then I might think about patrol territory.

So it is doable then :doh. Question is... What live axle is it from I wonder?

Forgetting the extreme amount or customisation required, once the live axle is fitted you are open to huge suspension lifts and huge tyres too no?

So yeah definately going on my bucket list, I would have to find a specialist as I could not carry out the work myself :p

Does anyone know what live axles are pictured?

I was thinking about this today Alex as i sat trying to change the ball joint(again) in my T2.

You'd not only have to chop away all the existing mounts and build up spring seats and shock mounts but also the sump on a TD27 may need some alteration.

Don't worry about the radius arms, you can mount them as far along the chassi rail as ya need to, to make it work)

and if you have the right auto trans in your T2(like i do) you can bolt the safari/patrol transfer case on it so the front output is on the right side for the patrol diffs.

I figured it'd be easier just to buy a rolling patrol chassi and chop and shorten it so it has the same axle centres as the T2, shorten the drive shaft and then just bolt the T2 body on to it.
It would make for a mean wide body truck, be like 12 inch flares on it like the icelandic trucks

That's more like it :D

Look at the lovely live axle 265 tyres as standard and no lift at the moment. I plan to do a 2 inch suspension lift oneday but how high would you go Alex ???

Wow what an opportunity....3-5 years... that's nothing...
I've had mine .................................................

The following information had been deleted... as it is getting repetitive...

We all know that Rustic has had his truck 19 years, and now he has changed it to ... nearly 20 years... :doh:doh Don't encourage him...:augie

Self moderation... you can't beat it lol....
:lol:lol

Alex, I think you do need a Trol, trouble is, part Ex wouldn't be a good deal, with the current state of your truck. :doh
If it was stolen, and not recovered, then the insurance would pay out it's market value before the mods, problem is, no sane person would steal that...:lol
It would just be your luck, that the insurance company found a loop hole, ie non declared mod that means they won't pay out.:doh:doh

I always take your comments on board now, but I am aware the value of my truck already will not be worth much. I am planning for a fresh start with 0 budget to get a trol :naughty but again this will be 3/5 years away.

In the meantime as I dont plan to sell her (for any real cash) I might aswell customise the hell out of her, making sure I delcare all my mods at the same time :lol

Well mine is currently on 2" susp lift and 2" body lift with 32" tyres.

NOT ENOUGH :sly

id be running 48s if they fit :sly

Guess I just want to have the freedom to increase as now I have hit a limit and cannot raise any more (minus bigger boots) :lol

Mabye I should worry about boots first then cross the bridge when that is not enogh.. :augie

Do patrol wheels and terrano wheels fit each other? :nenau

EDIT: also raising the front up anymore makes the CV joints self detonate!

So much negative on this thread:doh TBH i'm finding this interesting:thumb2

You could body lift further as i've known a couple with 3 & 4" body lifts, you can lift the suspension further but you'll have to drop down the front diff by the same amount of extra lift you do to keep the CV's inlines have a look at the Calmini kits:thumbs yes patrol rims fit onto a T2 no probs & have a bigger offset

It's an interesting idea and I have seen pics of the same conversion done to newer Hiluxs etc but if you're not planning on keeping the Terrano for more than a few years then why go to all that time and effort to make her even less appealing for most future buyers?

Changing the whole front suspension system to a completely differrent type is just going to make her more complicated for Average Joe to maintain.

Worth remembering as well bud, if you're thinking of putting massive tyres on then you're probably also gonna have to think about changing diff ratios etc and/or a bigger engine transplant :nenau

Massive lifts look cool but can make your truck less suitable as a daily driver. I'm sure I've mentioned before about an article I read in Total Offroad about a guy's modded hilux - it had a bit of lift on it (4"-6") but was a replacement for a Trol with 8"+ of lift which the guy had got rid of after rolling it (during normal driving) for the 3rd or 4th time! :doh

To answer your question, as Sweety says Trol rims will fit on a Terrano but Terrano rims will probably not fit on a Trol as the hubs on the Trols are massive, I know some of the Aussie guys even have trouble getting generic steels to fit :(

Cheers for the heads up. Glad your finding it interesting.

Customisation is what its all about :D

Live axle means the diff can go considerably higher than the alternative option?

dont fancy lifting up just to drop the diff back down again :doh

Unless there is another way around these damed CV joints at the front :nenau

Am i right in saying thats the only thing holding me back from going higher?

Live axle means the diff can go considerably higher than the alternative option?

Actually bud the diff is usually higher in an independant setup, thats why the cv joints get knackered as when you do a suspension lift the diff doesn't move down with the wheels & hubs like in a live axle.

If you really must put a bigger suspension lift in then Sweety's suggestion of trying to move the diff down to bring the cv's more inline sounds a better idea.

You can lift either suspension setup :nenau - the benefit of a live axle is not really the lack of cv's its the behaviour of the axle during articulation that makes offroad folk like live axles.

as sweety says buy the calmini kit that bolts straight on but that will put the diff closer to the ground.just buy a couple of spare front drive shafts.
its knowing where to stop with the mods.
problem is you can go too big which restricts where you can get when out laning.might have the ground clearance but restricted with the height.
too wide and cant fit down the lanes.
