Wise ones, my T2 failed me - again.

Ran perfectly fine Monday evening, nothing special to report. Yesterday evening it started normal, but wouldn't rev. It limits to about 1500rpm, and then the MIL light comes on.

Mind you, MIL does not remain lighted after starting the engine, it only comes on when revving. Up till now I:
- disconnected MAF - makes no difference
- cleaned the (Hitachi) MAF - no difference
- checked the negative battery terminal, did not help. Terminal was a bit loose I have to admit
- checked fuel filter rubber push button: tight

Might be related: I had to replace the battery last week. But the car ran fine afterwards.

Any ideas? I rather need the car the coming weeks.

would meter the maf just to see if there is a circuit, there will be a resistance reading, someone else may have that information but if you getting nothing then your maf maybe dead

if your mil light has come up you will have a stored code, do the paperclip thingy and read the codes, let us know what you get and we have something to go on, I have EcuTalk and it not only gives me the codes but how many times, my most recent was ckp sensor 17 starts, I knew the sensor was OK so binned the plug and socket, all sorted, symptoms were erratic running and stalling as it went into idle, made it hard to drive as needed to heel & toe the brake and loud pedal when stopping, but sorted now all due to a bad plug/socket, Rick

point of note there are TWO styles of reading codes, one is bridge and release then bridge again to clear codes, the other is bridge and hold codes are displayed then upon releasing codes are cleared, if yours is the latter but you are bridging and releasing then you will never see a code, Rick

If unplugging maf makes no difference maf is goosed surely!

not always the case I have unplugged mine while looking for my last issue and it did not make any difference stationary, now with the petrol 2.4i it would not run nice at all again stationary, Rick

I'll try to get it into my garage today, so I can check the codes at ease. Followed the workshop download yesterday, no error codes - but it does not mention the second possibility (bridge and hold to display codes).

Hi
I would have a look at your throttle sensor on the accelerator pedal.

I would have expected that to have thrown up and EML with code 23 for that, I've had that one before on the Maverick

No it is not mentioned anywhere, but I have two Mk2 motors and one is one style the other, the other that is how I know, compared them side by side, Rick

But he might be clearing his codes before reading them, check out my post 6, Rick

Very True

That's why I'd be tempted to run a permanent ECUTalk application using Consult on a small monitor in the car :naughty

Still trying to find a 16 Pin solution that I like and that works

Would not the error code return once you run the engine?

Anyway, got the car in the garage with a lot of trouble. Horrible shuddering, no power, and a tendency to conk out. It did almost not make it up the 3cm high doorsill under the garage door.

Not checked error codes yet, but I did clean out a bit of junk from the little water tap under the fuel filter. Filter seems to be OK, I replaced it last year.

For the error codes, should the engine be running, or just the ignition on?

Ignition, Position 2 (last one before starting)

Do you have white smoke that really stinks?

Didn't especially notice white smoke, it always stinks though :)

I got to the error codes (had to leave the bridge in): code 12 and code 43.
So, MAF and accelerator pedal...
