ok well tried the spring lift and its good but with all the problems ive been getting
and bluebulls constant problems, im going to stick at that for now for lifting modding the running gear its clear these trucks cant take it

now im definitely cutting the body to get bigger tyres on.
so as to give lift without re engineering any more of the running gear.

i had hoped to get 15"x10" rims on when i spend out on some new muds but im now at the stage of wondering if my big offset rims could be some of the cause of my problems too... i know i have them and bluebull has similar too and we are both getting problems . so the big offset could be putting it all under too much stress. its certainly picking up all the bumps and ruts in the road...so its likely
they are almost like reversed rims

over the weekend i shall be stripping the front end and having a good look at what parts are needed to rebuild all the suspension and tracking area to the front . at first glance thats going to cost around 200 quid. more if i find some super dooper dampers for it too and off course the fee for re setting it all ... when i find a good garage

another option im concidering is re enforcing the torsion bars or going for tougher ones.... but with my wallet as empty as it is. its looking like , im going to weld a strip along them for less flex and off course the front arb is going back on , its absolutelly useless without one and pointless unless you can put tougher shocks on ok you get a little more movement but very limited and its just floppy movement. not like a proper axle when you push one side up the other is pushed down with the front how it is its just floppy crap and drives like a boat with the stearing of a hovercraft

then off with the outer wings and start cutting to see what can be achived that way. once im up to the max trim and re fit the outer wings and probably have to make some arch extensions from fibre glass to pretty her up again

i got a friend coming over to look at other options too but i doubt there will be much room for anything else unless i switch to a live axle at the front but thats not going to be cheep............. good but not cheep

your thoughts everyone ????

Don't forget to get some pic's of the work you do :thumb2

ive got the 2" rear springs on and torsion bars re-indexed and wound up to suit.
rear arb off but left the front on.
31"muds on dr jeckal split rims with a bigger off set than standard rims and 30mm wheel spacers.
steering is fine as is the handling.
need to get the camber checked and adjusted to suit but other than that i can't see any other problems with my set up.
have got new shocks to fit and re-bush front arb for mot as the bushes have had it.all the other bushes look fine so if it aint broke dont try and fix it.
can't see why your truck is giving you so much hassle as you done pretty much the same as me.
only difference is mines a lwb.

Don't do it they are tempered spring steel, if you heat them up even local with a mig by welding bits on you will ruin their spring properties and most likely they will snap in some short order due to localised differences in the metal setting up internal stresses.

As elty says not sure why you are getting all these problems - I'ce sold about a dozen sets of springs and theres others about too and you seem tobe te only one with problems. Bluebull is different he has 3" of lift with various other bits on too, don't think you ca really draw any comparisions with his. Sounds to me like there is still something in your front end that is worn be it ball joints or bushes. Both my current one and previous mav handle fine, ask sweety - he's tried to keep up with me on the road, and failed despite his running far better road tyres.

I'll let you know in just over 2 weeks how it was on the Mac - plenty of road miles on that and I suspect we won't be hanging a round.

Or you could just slow down a bit of course.........

well ill know more over the weekend . when i strip the front

i cant live with
that sort of dive on the front
poor stearing and wandering (tracking is done)
floppy suspension

all since the front arb off... possibly fixed with new tougher dampers

i had planned to body lift like bluebull but that definitely off

like i said ill change the body rather than upset the running gear further

I hope you can reach some sort of solution to your problems mate. My lwb runs 31" muds with front and rear arb's removed and I ve got no problems other than play in the steering due to the 2 inner tre's needing replacement.

I'm looking forward to seeing how you get on with cutting the arches though:thumb2

Last year took front arb off,too much body roll when towing so refitted with polybushes and new droplinks. When off still tracked true just more roll .

Tell me about it:doh i'm sure you had put glue on your tyres or you were running on rails:nenau As I was following you TRS your T2 looked very stable & our Jess got out of your motor with a big grin on her face so it must have felt fine from inside the truck:D BUT I did manage to keep up with you on one bit we both cooked our brakes on that last down hill bit:lol:lol:lol

update

stearing idler arm is dead for starters..... anyway it can be repaired

Hey extreme dont panic:eek: there has to be something else going on in steering land:thumbs
This tdi I've got now has shot frfont shockers and handles like a crab. I've not had a chance to check yet but it feels like all the bushes are ex bushes and made of marshmallow:lol
I had my old one with front and back arb off and it swayed a bit but no prob with diving.
On the spare mav you bought recently there are some shock absorber extensions on the front they might help till you can buy sone specials:cool:
Going to get trailer tomorrow not sure about time yet:thumbs

well if you get it down here we can both have a look together and if you need parts from milners we can do a big order

and if there's bits you need on the spare mav well im sure we can do something;):thumbs:thumbs:doh

now get an early night and come on down asap

thats just the front:eek: ............. they dont do rear ones for a t2 :doh:doh:doh

gutted

i would have had 2 sets if they did the rears too:cool:

How much

Leave it out someones pulling your plonker:eek:
How can a pair of coil over shocks be that much:nenau
Bloody colonials:eek:

Just a thought, but I wonder if a car front MacPherson strut would adapt, plenty of different sizes to chose from in a scrap yard

i like the idea of coil overs still shopping around for prices

could you explain the MacPherson strut idea ?
