I hope so, cos if you can even find insurance to cover you it's gonna cost thousands.

Anyway you seem to have it all covered so maybe you can have a look for a V8 LDV 400. I used to drive them in a previous job. Bloody awesome vehicle if you can still find one.
You could even put a 3.9 EFI range rover engine in it and have 190bhp with sidepipes or maybe a TVR engine and even more hp especially if you give it a shot of nitrous or find one of the rare turbo set ups.

In fact yes a twin turbo 4.6 V8 with a megasquirt ecu and nitrous running about 280hp should get along nicely and it should last with the bottom end having cross bolted mains. Job done

Stick a GMC 6.5 V8 turbo D from a hummer in it then. Can put gas injection on that. Should have enough torque to snap the splines off the input shaft.

just an after thought on the maxus, after driving one for the nhs for 15 months daily i can tell you they are appalling vehicles, but quicker than the first smiley faced transits. even the nhs had to use ebay for parts as they are damm near extinct everywhere else(even the fuel cap took one van off the road for 2 weeks, seller got average feedback!). the old war horse ldv 400 was by far the best out of the fleet! have you thought about a big people mover and cnverting it? mitsu delicia(shogun with different body), voyager? vauxhall movano's are a decent van too, good sized. well done on new job btw

I was referring to a diesel. Thats what a gmc 6.5 turbo D is. The clue is in the "D"

I thought that cost wasn't a problem anymore.

I know some of the smiley trannies can be fed veg oil quite happily which would reduce one of the major costs for you, if you can handle the grim job of filtering and dewatering old oil AND you can find pubs etc. that are willing to let you collect it, you can have fuel at rock bottom prices. then your total annual running costs including insurance (no matter what motor you try and run) won't be so bad.

Get a disposable hotmail account, get onto a meerkat site and start making shit up to see what is 'affordable', then try and buy one of those. Just start getting quotes for say your age + six months, full license, no no claims, both TPFT and fully comp. Include up to 8 safe old people in the quotes if you can as that'll reduce the average risk even if they don't drive the vehicle, just make sure you are being quoted as the main driver.

Insurance companies are somewhat odd balls and vehicles that you would expect to cost an arm and a leg end up being cheaper than all of the 'cheap to insure' ones are as they tend to attract the younger drivers who have all the accidents! If you're think of camper van conversion, then get a broker to run off a couple of quotes with specialists, they may not want a teenager, but if they are happy with your age then they'll often give a better deal for a camper van as they aren't naturally boy racer machines. (Except for on Top Gear maybe)

Do I? I don't think so, I just look at the way of getting the best deal tbh, eg, eveyone says I should keep the Hyundai, but, if I can afford a bigger better vehicle, why should I ? Yeah, maybe I do question people's knowledge here and what they tell me, but at the of the day, I want the best option so am doing my research, getting all the facts and figures you could say

Chances are he'll pipe dream and waste tons of hours looking at vans and other ideas, sharing those with us as it goes, all fairly harmless and sometimes downright amusing!

I'm not trying to be arsey, just offer decent advice to prevent the poor lad suffering enormous frustration.

It's excellent to have dreams but if too many people humour incorrect/incomplete information and advice then the lad won't get anywhere.

The harsh truth sometimes has to be outlined and acted upon rather than covered by chocolate, marshmallows and fluffy toys. Only then can progress be made towards the higher goals and dreams.

I have, and always will dream. Some of them I've made come true so far, some I'm still working on, but there's still an element of realism that must be considered in real terms rather than entertainment value.

I can see that there's two clear and defined schools of thought here, certain people obviously agree with my direction and others are of a different opinion.

I think that at the end of the day, I haven't been here too long and I don't know Ryan's history on here and I may have jumped in believing that he was asking for serious advice for right now, but it's more a kinda of outright long term question and answer thing with no requirement for an early result and nothing is going to progress anytime soon.

I wasn't like that when I was younger. I worked all summer when I was 16 and 17 and saved up enough money to go and buy a motor and get lessons etc, then just did it. I couldn't wait to get driving. Maybe I was lucky that the internet wasn't there to distract me from what I was doing.
