Well today I was going play at a pay event organised by Nort4x4 near Chesterfield
but it was suspended due to ammount of snow on the site. Some of the guys were
going to have a trip into the Peak district but this too was capped at last minute.
So myself and a mate Rob, also with a y61 troll but on 03 plate and auto decided
to do Houndkirk, from west to east, fox house to ringinglow. Ran into to trouble
almost straight away on first climb up from gate, drifts on the lane, I got past
on 3 rd attempt but Rob got stuck, so had to turn round and tug him back onto
drier ground, he had grounded on snow, despite rear locker and waffle boards.
Thats first time ever had to recover on a public lane!. Got past it eventually with
a better line to side of drift. rest was uneventful but very scenic. Bit of slush on
drop back down to ringinglow.
Tried to drive upto Stanage but snow on gradient defeated me, plan was to have
lunch at summit then come back down to sheffield side, not ready for the drop
into derbyshire quite yet. On way home did last part of houndkirk again but joined
it via the track along side lady cannings plantation, was nice and good to tick the
route off after 20 years of wondering! there was a bit of snow down to the cross
roads of houndkirk, might of been more fun uphill!
pix to follow.
