Ladders!

Have just made myself a luggage rack,i'm now just wondering if the back door is strong enough to take a ladder?? it would have to be on the right side over the handle?? :lol:

I have once seen a set of stainless ladders mounted to the tailgate of a mistral. They seemed to hook over top lip of tailgate but couldn't see the bottom very well.
What's your roof rack like?

Its a good idea, i like the suggestionof ;ladders sliding out from under the rack and maybe being supported at the bottom by the tow bar?


This way you would avoid stree on the door, but i beleve th edorr would take it as loing as it was closed!

I have aladder on the back door of my transit, it was fitted with no re enforcment inside and the bottom of the door has pushed in a bit!

having said that a t2 door is pretty strong as it has to take the spare wheel carrier! but if fitting directly to the door i would take the skin off the inside and think abotu a bit of internal bracing firt!

Just finished putting it all together 2night!! to dark for pictures just know,will get some in the morning and put them up 2morrow night!! :lol:
Jim,it's just like a big mechano set,using wiring conduit metal with slots in it!! you'll see in the picts!!
Got the spots on the front of the rack,instead of the cross bar!
The sliding ladder idea sound good,but how would it fit under the rack,has anybody got any plans for this type of ladder.
My m8s shogun has the ladder hooked over the top and bolted,but he doesn't know if it was strengthened!!
Just don't know if the top of the door would take it??

I was wondering if something like small loft ladder (folding type) mounted onto runners under the rack would be ok for this :? It would mean the ladder would'nt get in the way of the sunroof :roll:

the only way i think that you could have a sliding ladder would be a similar idea to your average kitchen drawer( small wheels that slide in a metal runner). or a roller similar to contractor roofracks that have rollers to bget the ladders of the top, but you could have the rollers suspended underneath the rack?

ive got a load of 4x4 (inches) pressure treated timber, some six inch nails, a big hammer and a chain saw, I'm sure i can kncock something up for you :lol: :lol:

Just a point to watch before you load up your roof rack, my factory fitted roof rails state 55kg max load on roof.

Surprised at that weight limit, the handbook says 75kg doesn't it?

Mine has a weight limit sticker on it too but I think it's there to look good :lol: Mine has had a bit more than 55 or even 75 :roll:

with good 4 inch posts and plenty of cement in the mix it should take at least a ton and act as a roll cage!!
