Hi all, been stalking for a while but nows the time to pay my dues.
My motor is a 2003 terrano 3.0. The problem i have is lack of power, 1st and 2nd seem fine but when you go into 3rd and above its like someone has almost pulled the plug. Ive already changed the maf blanked the egr at the inlet manifold and changed the fuel filter (found that the fuel lift pump is from a mitsubishi and the priming pump dosnt work. I was told that there is no mini filter in the fuel line so havnt checked that. As ive got a run with the caravan its a bit worrying with no guts....... HELP:bow

Aint got a clue, how would i know ?? Something else ive noticed is when its struggleing it almost sounds like the exhaust is blowing, does that make sense. cheers

Same symptoms as mine when my mini filter was blocked, are you sure the 3ltr doesn't have one?

First thing I'd do is run it from a jerry can strapped under the bonnet thus bypassing everything bar the IP, don't go too far though or you wont get back :lol

You'll soon eat through it as well as the return will be feeding back to the tank

Do that and report back :thumb2

Cheers for reply. On nights tonight but going to Wales wit the caravan when I get up. So won't get time.

There is no waste gate to get stuck.
The ZD30 uses a variable geometry turbo, this can become clagged up though preventing the vanes in the exhaust path from moving.

Only a guess, but the "blowing" noise you can hear may be due to the turbo vanes stuck or with limited movement.
This could be caused by a split/leaking vacuum pipe (there are quite a few). I'd be very thoroughly checking these first.

I can feel my head hanging lower and lower. I hate bloody cars. Cheers ray.
Am I right in thinking the mini filter is on the fuel return pipe ,so the would be the 1 on the left of the pump. I've never looked as a mechanic in the dive club told me they never put 1 on the 3.0.

As far as I am aware there is no mini filter on the VP44 IP.
Chin up, vac hose failures are not uncommon. The problem is in detecting the leak, a very small leak can cause havoc, but be difficult to spot.
May be worth considering buying a few meters of tube and doing a blanket change?

Do you know off the top of your head the diary of the pipe and is it something most motor factors stock. Oh and are the pipes all the same dia. Cheers

Just a word of warning bud, blanking the EGR on the 3.0 can cause overboost issues which can eventually knacker the ZD30 engine. It's a dead cert with the Trols but it seems some Terrano's can get away with it (probably 'cause they're not as heavy as the Trols).

Ideally if you blank the EGR you should make adjustments to prevent the overboost (not too difficult).

I did a few pdf's including one on blanking the EGR (which explains why it can cause overboost). Post with Onedrive link here :thumb2 http://www.nissan4x4ownersclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24782

I have had power loss issues with mine, the 1st time, it turned out to be one of the pipes from the turbo had come loose, this also gave the load noise you speak of.
The 2nd time was after I had done a fuel filter change, while towing our caravan home, the EML came on and the power dropped off, I nursed it home and did another fuel filter change, it's been perfect since.
As Ray say's, check all the hoses

Thanks for that. I will remove the blank as it made no difference to the running.

Cheers will have a quick look when I get up. As I have said the lift pump that the fuel filter attaches to is from a mitsubishi and doesn't prime it's u/s. So do you think that could cause problems??. Also had it scanned and had no faults.

Not sure about the lift Mitsubishi part, but I would try and fit a Nissan part in working condition.

This seems like a solid idea to me, revert any changes that have been made, that Mitsubishi part sounds suspect to me, the fact that the primer doesn't works sounds fishy

Well removed EGR blank and checked for split /cracked hoses and they all look ok. Got to Wales and it was a struggle when the engine is under load can't seem to get it to rev above 2500 and it's as flat as a witches tit( not that I've seen 1).

Now that I've got the truck home and got underneath it would appear that there is a couple of holes in the front pipe either side of the flexi joint. But would this cause such a massive power loss. Cheers for any replies.

If it's split and it shouldn't be..... replace it, go one job at a time :thumb2

Most people go bull in a china shop, attempt 7 different fixes to remedy a fault and then can't pinpoint which one fixed the issue :lol

It certainly sounds fuel blockage/starvation to me mate

Get some pics up of the Mitsi bit you're talking about

When the section of exhaust rear of the silencer box fell off on my ZD30, it would frequently go into limp mode or safe map. This was due to the lack of back pressure on the exhaust allowing over-boost. New tail section fitted and no further occurrences of limp mode.
So, I would guess it depends on how large the holes are?
Also, is it actually dropping into limp mode? or is it just lousy all the time?
