Right then, so I managed to free the bolt with a bit of gentle persuasion and a hood helping of wd40 :)

But I kid you not that must be the most awkwardly placed starter motor in history, what a ballache to get it out!!! either that or I've been a wally and not removed it correctly

Here's the suspected offender;

I'm taking it here after work tomorrow with a lift from my kind friend at work :)

They are going to test it on the bench and then take it apart to see if it needs repairing or if I need a replacement.

I did notice when I took it off the car and carried it inside, I could smell a burning smell from it, maybe it has worn out, who knows, I'm just hoping it's a cheap fix!!!

Well done... You got that out quick..:clap

You should have asked Ryan about the starter motor, he is an expert, only took him 3 weeks, and then he got a backwards one...:lol:lol

Only just seen this thread :doh

What you could have done was to measure the voltage at each solenoid connection with ref to chassis whilst someone else was turning the ignition key.

If there was a few volts difference from the battery side of the solenoid to the starter side then the solenoid is duff.

If the voltage is the same at both sides of the solenoid and up at 11volts or more then the starter is duff.

If the voltage is down at the battery side of the solenoid then the battery cable / battery is duff so measure the voltage across the battery whilst cranking to prove the battery.

Ah, I wish you'd have given me this advise when it was in the car :doh
Hopefully the guy will be able to tell me what the score is tomorrow

Right then!!!

Took the starter motor to the garage on Tuesday night after a mad rush across town in 5pm traffic and got there just as the guy was about to leave so he told me I had to leave it with him.

Had a call on the Wednesday morning from the guy who was in disbelief at the state of the motor inside and told me that the armature was completely shot and so were the brushes!!

He supplied me a brand new one for £100 inc VAT and even delivered it for me

Got home and took me 45 mins to smack it on the car;
