Hi,

the Terrano has become difficult to unlock in the morning on the fob, key in the drivers door worked for a time. Then that stopped on Monday and had to manually lock the 4 doors, boot door remained unlocked.

When the door lock button was pressed the hazard lights flashed twice and it didn't lock.

I've replaced the battery in the keyfob with a new battery.

I ordered a cont time module and this arrived today and is now installed. The dome light etc that weren't working are now working - yay.

Keyfob still not working, tried the re-programme sequence several times today and still the keyfob won't work. There is a spare key or rather the original key, that's missing a micro-switch and the transponder isn't recognized. Engine just cranks over without firing on the spare key. Put the other key in ie the non working fob and the engine starts.

For now we've gone back to using the zr.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Car still drives etc..... just the alarm goes off every time you unlock the drivers door, until you insert the key into the ignition.

Is it time to visit a nissan dealership to programme a new fob, or is there a way of disabling the alarm sound? flashing lights is ok.

Word of warning, DO NOT use the unchipped key more than twice in succession, 3rd time and you will be locked out until the system is re programmed, the horn is mounted behind the OSR panel just disconnect it, most car locksmiths will be able to re program the car for you at modest cost as opposed to Nissan, there is one near me in Hurstmonceux, do not know where you are in Kent but he may travel I do not know, he certainly visited me in Bexhill after I used the wrong key and got locked out of the system, Rick

Now you've installed the new timing control unit, I'd try and re-programme the key, I had this exact same problem with my Terrano, I lost the alarm, the interior lights wouldn't dim and I lost the headlight reminder chime when I opened the drivers door when I'd left the headlights on. After I repaired the key, I got the central locking functionality back.

As Rick has already said, please stop using the key that doesn't allow the car to start, if the IMMU ring around the ignition barrel reads it more than 3 times in a row, you'll cause yourself a NATS lockout and you'll need a man out with a laptop or similar to get you going again.

Get the working key re-programmed by following the key pairing sequence from the workshop downloads area;

If it were me, so I didn't accidentally land myself in hot water, I'd be tempted to remove the transponder from the key that doesn't start the car to stop a lockout occurring.

I've recently repaired 2 fobs by resoldering recycled microswitches from other Nissan keys I was allowed to help myself to at the scrapyard :naughty

Chances are if your switches have gone, you'll also have worn rubber buttons into holes too, these you might just have to scour the scrapyards or eBay for as and when keys come up, the Almera shared the same key as did a few other models so you shouldn't be waiting long :thumb2

Thanks for all the replies, I've tried the re-programme thingy several times and it flashes to state the sequence has started, but there is no final flash to confirm it was successful. I've changed the batteries 5 or 6 times and still the same results.

For fun the mg-zr decided it was time to have its head gasket fail (failing) lol - not repairing this. Heads already been skimmed once by previous owner....... many moons ago.

So we have a car to use, I decided to remove the rubber block on the bonnet on the osf, so nothing touches the bonnet switch. Car opens without the alarm going off.

9/10 times it will be your key at fault, I'm assuming you've got issues with your microswitches to be honest.
