I fitted one of those kenlowe heaters to an Austin Montego, in the late 80's. It worked very well but was prone to sticking. At the time Kenlowe advised against anything but plain fresh antifreeze mixture, regularly changed, otherwise pump sticking was inevitable.
If anyone remembers the Montego then lack of heat from the heater was quite normal! Apart from that it was the worst car, for reliability, that I've ever had anyway.
I've been tempted to fit one to the terrano but bad memories (& the expense!) stops me every time LOL. I'll stick to blanking off the rad.....it's less hassle LOL.

I think the key thing with them from what I've read is just to ensure that they are used regularly during the colder months and that the health of your AntiFreeze is tip top.

If they get stuck they really aren't that hard to free up, the trick will be finding me somewhere to mount it that will be easy to get at again if I need to and also uses the shortest lengths of hose possible to minimise heat loss.
 
Mounting my little Russian unit was the toughest bit.
These things need to be fitted rather than swinging around in-line.
As you say Zac, when you need to install the shortest inlet and outlet hoses without linking, locations become limited.
My unit is only IP44 rated, so can’t be placed anywhere too wet or mucky.

I started with a second hand kenlow that jammed in a week. I got another off someone on here which turned out to be seized solid, so I got one from ebay that looked almost identical to yours.

I fitted mine in the same area as you, just a bit lower down under the intercooler. The 2" body lift helped there. I also had to fit a bleed point like you. Just watch the metal clips the pipe run over the glowplugs in, as my pipe lifted out and sat on the side of the clip slicing the pipe and cooking the engine.

It was your installation pics that inspired me to put the unit there.
I wanted to put it lower down for obvious reasons but the hose runs wouldn’t have been ideal.
Will heed your advice on hose clips.

How did you get power to your unit?

The local electrical factor sells a small waterproof gel filled junction box which I also wrapped in self amalgamating tape, and extended the mains cable through the car to the rear, where I had a pair of caravan mains sockets in the rear boot side panel, already wired to a blue 16amp caravan socket on the rear panel under the brake light. I just plugged it into one of them when I needed it. It never seized once in the years I had it installed.
