Here are some details and pictures regarding the K and N filter replacement modification,

I have received this filter for testing from Ian Burdis from K and N in the Uk,
I contacted Ian with an enquiry after the notts green laning dayout when we had problems with wet and ruined air filters (stock type) after the ford water crossing,

I have fitted it to my 2.7TD Auto 1995 Mistral in the original stock air filter housing as this is a direct replacement for the stock filter!
i will be keeping the stock setup and then fit a snorkel to the stock water trap/air intake in the inner wing!

Now the reason for choosing K and N apart from their world renown name for quality, was the fact that they are washable and will eventually save us considerable money on replacement stock type paper filters,
The beauty of the K and N filter is as it's washable then if it gets wet it will not be ruined and also with the oil impregnated filter medium, it should help no end to repel any water if sucked into the intake,

Ian has asked me to send feedback on it's ability to repel water or any general feedback regarding dirt contamination after off roading etc, in return for this information, he has promised to look at discount for club members on any of the products they sell, the standard filter price for the 2.7TD version is £39.95 + vat + delivery,
now i know this is a lot of money to start, but if you consider i have gone through at least 3 stock type paper filters in 12 months of off-roading and if you get them locally from auto parts shops they are approx £10 at the cheapest! so the K and N would prove very cost effective as you just remove wash and re oil the filter after each off roading session, remember also that the summer dusty months are now upon us and the stock type will get dirty very quickly!

I have noticed so far that it allows the engine to rev more freely and accelerates far better than the stock paper ones,
So far it has the thumbs up from me!

Picture two = undo the centre fixing bolt and remove filter from air box top

Picture three = refit K and N filter and tighten centre fixing bolt, do not over tighten as it will start to buckle the filter body!

Picture four = stick supplier sticker on bottom of filter and fill in details of mileage etc,

Picture five = filter now fitted and second supplied warning sticker fitted, this tells service mechanics not to throw away the K and N filter etc.

I will report back after the next off roading day out on the 21st April 2007.

Stay tuned

The best way for you to keep water out, would be to slow down -rotfl-

I'll see if i can find you a river to cross

Do they want anyone to trial a fiter for the 2.4 petrol (panel style), if you twist my arm I could be talked into it.  -rotfl-

Can we ask them if they can bring out a filter for the later TDI's. they don't (alledgedly) do one, although I'm sure it will be the same as the earlier TDI's.

hi jonathanM
fitted the 2.7 K & N filter kit to my 3.0l Tdi It bolted straight on much better flow more free revving, Seam to have better economy to
I have read all the previous about heat concerns but while towing my caravan to Scarborough it was fault less.
Just one small complaint from the wife she can here the turbo spin up but sounds OK to me.
Have left the air duct from the font in place just removed the old air box and bolted on the flange plate from K&N.

(just got to get me penny's together for the chip mod next)

i will ask regarding the later filter for the TDi,

also i want this topic kept sensible please as the supplier may be seeing this topic.

thanks rob

is there a drastic change then on the newer tdis i found one for mine through an official k+n suplier even got few freebie bits in with deal the actual filter looks pretty standard probibly fits plenty of vehicles itd be the plate and suport to convert from the old round type standard filter thatd be unique to the terrano/mav i found kit very easy to fit i removed the standard air inlet from car to allow little deeper fording as id say you gain around 2" from standard another + point!

The K&N website doesn't list a replacement filter for the 2000 or 2001 TDI. I have a feeling that the filter is the same as the older TDI but don't want to buy one & then find it doesn't fit.
I've e-mailed K&N and been told that they don't do a filter, hence why I'd like Shark1e to ask his contact what they feel about one for later TDI's. If they needed to see a later vehicle, I'm only 10 miles or so away from Warrington (where K&N UK are based) so they wouldn't need to struggle to get a look at the filter box if they needed to.

I've used K&N panel filters before & really rate them, so would like to do away with the disposable element if i can.

They don't list a filter for a 95 Maverick 2.4 petrol, but they do list the same model Terrano.

post piccie of your engine bay ill do same see bif we can c any difference

As far as i know the filters on the tdi are all the same right up to they stopped making them.

OK will do but as far as I know there aren't any (except mine has extra bits for the LPG. Will start new thread for it though as we're going well off topic here.
