Hi guys after selling my t2 2.7 tdi earlier this year any buying a more suitable family car lol

But with winter coming and it'd be just my luck that we get a shed load of snow and I'm stuck with my auto grand voyager ! Which will be no good in the snow !

So I went out and bought a cheapo maverick for winter and general messing around

It's a 2.4 mav LWB with 101,000 miles bit tatty but no bothered about that

I just would like to know a few things to keep an eye out for engine wise ?

Running gear I know all about but is there any tips or tricks I can do or need to do or know

the petrol suffers timing chain tensioner failure rattle on startup is the symptom, but can also be end rattling but do not worry about that it is not a problem, however the chain if really bad can eat into the water pump housing with severe results, Rick
 
I am doing fine mate, I use an endoscope to look down and examine the fixed tensioner to see if it was the early version (all plastic and ends up in the sump) or the later plastic with metal backing, the plastic still ends up in the sump but the metal stops the case damage, rad out timing case of all the bits from US £150 Rick
 
not too much of a problem but just got a very large job so not much time at the moment, will know a bit more in a couple of weeks time, it will wait that long, Rick
