Reverse Lights In The Dark

At the same time thought it would be rude to ignore these :sly

These make a huge difference, so pleased with them.

Aye. Will do. Cheers

Ian

When the project is complete I intend to break it down into single mods and post them up on here with some detailed information but to be honest they are not difficult to do at all. Buy the bulb holders from ebay and a little bit of work with a dremel or a file and some wiring job done.

It's a mod I'd love to do especially now is getting dark earlier.

There's also a thread or two on the very same topic somewhere on here. I can never get the ruddy search thing to find anything for me, but I know there's at least two versions .
It's a shame more of these mods don't get onto the download page.
Hey BAT, ( tag a mate here ) how can we improve the download upload system thingy ?
Keep it up Jim and team :D

Looking great Jim, so I wonder how much weight the old girl has put on with all the new steel and rust protection lol...

Hi guys, just a quick update but no photos today.

Right real progress now, almost there!

We did some tidying up of the front body mount from below today. Also went around the welds with seam sealer, with a bit of luck I'll be able to get a coat of hammerite on the bare metal tomorrow.
Bled the brakes which feel real nice now, nice firm pedal again. Also adjusted the headlamps, parked the old truck in front of garage door and marked position of truck and headlamp beams with masking tape. Then parked the project truck in the same location and adjusted to match. Got a nice screwdriver that has a adjustable handle so was able to slacked the drivers door striker which I adjusted and tightened back up.

So jobs left to do:-
1. Paint the osf body mounting
2. Refit both wings
3. Refit front bumper
4. Refit plastic mud guards and wing mouldings
5. Tidy boot area and peel back carpet
6. Cut out rotten section of boot floor and replace with new plate.
7. Paint boot floor
8. Clean, treat and paint osr seat belt mounting in the wheel arch as it was an advisory
9. Insure
10. MOT, will also let the garage fit the front pipe.
11. Enjoy the car:clap:clap:clap

21/10/15

Well tired after a long couple of days but got home from work and did a few jobs on the truck. Due to lack of light not taken any photos I'm afraid. Discovered a puddle of water in the drivers footwell:doh
So first job trace the leak after pouring water in different locations finally found the leak. There has been a previous repair part way up the joint between the inner wing and bulkhead where someone has welded a patch. Looks like there is a small hole letting water on the seam and it's right underneath the servo:doh So until that's sorted I can't fit the interior back in. Think I'll have to wait until completely dry and run seam sealer or something over the seam and maybe spread it about with my finger tips.

After the leak detection I refitted both wings and painted the rotted out sections with green hammerite, will give them another coat tomorrow when I get back from work. Will pull the car out from the car port so that I can get the doors open to fit the bolts for the wing behind the doors.

Hopefully a bit more progress tomorrow complete with a few photos.

Hi Jim, read in your project:
...NSF Body Mount, well not quite front but it's just below the OS A post. Can feel the underside of the carpets. This one will be tricky, will need to have a good look and strip the drivers side carpets and trims out for this. Wondering if I can cut the floor out and replace a lot of it from above. ...
Exactly what I am doing right now on my T2 - I cut out a piece of floor and removed the under lying body mount. I will try to make a new piece of floor - I copied the original piece in concrete and will press a new sheet of metal in that.
Did you succeed?

Yes we fixed this, think it's the last few photos in this thread. Made a new mount out of 3mm plate and a large section of floor 2mm. Repaired it all from above by cutting out the floor. Good tip is to ensure you support the body both sides of the section you cut out.

Will be updating in next day or two with more photos.

28 10 15 Almost There!!!

Well guys, it's been a few weeks since my last full update. The last update was the OSF Floor pan and body mounting. Came home from work hoping to put the carpets back but discovered a puddle!! Needed to trace the leak, noticed a previous repair between the bulkhead and inner wing so suspected some damage from that. My son (MattsTerrano) pulled the brake servo back in the engine bay whilst I was at work. He was able to paint some seam sealer down the joint between the inner wing and bulkhead. He also noticed that a grommet was loose where some previous wiring had been carried out. I also noticed a hole in the seam sealer on the little ledge on the bulkhead so that got a squirt of tiger seal too.

Test with a good gallon of water and all seems fine and dry now. So we refitted the carpets and sound deadening.

Next it was time to refit the wings, made a small repair on the OSF to cover the hole and hold the moulding. Have not refitted the plastic guards yet but will once it is back from MOT.

It just so happens that Hammerite Smooth Dark Green is a reasonable match to Nissan Dark Green, not metallic but you can't have everything. Repaired the wing with a section of aluminium plate and self tappers, would have preferred pop rivets but wasn't available to me today.

Front bumper next, oh no!! it was catching on the new cross member. Next time better to use 40x40mm box section. Anyway cut a couple of sections out at the ends and then refitted the bumper.

Bumper fitted at last as I had to wait for the hammerite to dry where we cut the cross member.

Moved on to the holes in the boot floor that we found whilst fitting the exhaust.

Remember this?

Well this turned out to be a body mounting so really should have failed it's MOT on this. Anyway welded a 3mm strap across top of the mounting and to the remaining good metal. Then welded a plate over the top to tie all the good metal together.

There was also this hole but again MOT fail within 300mm of a body mounting.

Finally seam sealed around the welds inner and outer body spraying with stone guard. Found another section of surface rust at the joint between wheel arch and floor so treated with fertan and then seam sealed.

Welding officially finished, thank you MattsTerrano :clap

Thought I might need to some entertainment or traffic news on the way to MOT so remembered a stereo Clivvy gave me (thanks mate) for my old Terrano that I haven't got around to fitting yet. Had the wiring adapter and aerial adapter in my garage saved from my Primera years and years ago. Keep telling my wife that it's not junk and will come in useful one day :lol

So thought she deserved a bath and a good clean inside and out. Here she is waiting for her big day tomorrow. Letting the garage fit the exhaust front pipe as neither me or my son fancied the studs snapping.

Will post an update when I hear back from the garage so fingers crossed.

Forgot to mention yesterday. We had a final check around at the lights, good job we did as the high level side lights were giving a bit of trouble. They were very intermittent and a thump on the light fitting made them work. So aired on the side of caution and refitted the original brake light holders. At least it'll pass the MOT like that and I can revisit those cheap chinese bulb holders.

I've got two options at the moment.

Go around breakers yards looking for a decent stop tail light bulb holders or I have the small wedge bulb holders in my garage along with some LED bulbs. To use the later method I will need to drill holes in the rear of the lamp reflectors.

Will take a look when the truck is back from MOT.

The End? or Not?

Well here goes guys, this is the culmination of the project. Today it passed it's MOT with no advisories:clap

So is this the end? well errr I've sat down and thought about this and actually I've enjoyed not just the project but also writing this thread. So why should this come to an end just because it's back on the road? Like a lot of projects it may never actually be completed but more evolve as time progresses. In the mean time thanks to CNCfabs I've got a few bits today to fit over the weekend. Got a High Level Brake Light, Replacement Mirror Switch, Passenger Sun Visor and also a rear diff breather.

Most of this will be pretty much straight forward and easy enough to fit. The original diff breather had snapped due to the broken exhaust, I suspect that the oil will be contaminated so want to get this replaced as soon as possible.

Need to tax the truck too this weekend, will do this Sunday as it's beginning of the month and no point wasting a whole months road tax for a days running.

The Future?

Well the future, not really thought too far ahead. I want to see how the truck runs, I really shouldn't keep both trucks so need to see which is the best truck for us. In the mean time I'm going to carry on playing and doing little jobs on the car. I'd like to replace the patches on the sills and then paint with Green Hammerite.

Would I Do It Again
Hell yes, have thoroughly enjoyed working with MattsTerrano. I've gained confidence and experience with this project too so well worth it. Financially defo not a success but we've kept another Terrano on the road and out of the breakers yard. Of course don't forget that I've already got another project lined up but this will be a long term project, the MG BGT so looking forward to that.

So look out for further additions to this project. :thumb2, this is not the end just the first bit accomplished.

Well Jim and Mattsterrano, let me be the first ( on this thread anyway) to congratulate you both on a successful project.
Well done, if you recall I agave this project 5 stars when you were half way through the project. Now if it was possible, I would now give you ten. Well done.
