yep Mr grinder and Mr welder are all that is needed, plenty of salvageable motor there, notice you have no pics of under carpets under 2nd row of seats, well worth a look here as they are prone to rust here big time as twin skin, Rick

Yeah, my idea is to get it through the test and then start sorting out the rest of the possible spots. That said Ive had the carpet up at the driverside as its lose from when the seatbelt mount was done and to be fair seems pretty good.

Haha watch this space :lol

:thumb2

I can see this being a very interesting thread, and will encourage many more to keep their trucks on the road.:thumb2

After all... in another 20 years of Maverick ownership, I hope there will still be parts around to keep mine on the road even longer lol.:augie:augie

Mind you... I don't know what parts I'll need during that time lol...
:doh:doh

Hi Guy's, could I have some advice or thoughts on my plan for the OS body mount below the A post.

I plan to remove the front bumper and both wings along with sidesteps to give better access.

I'm going to take the carpet up and the plastic trims for the drivers footwell.

I plan to cut the outer sill as per the picture below to give access to the inner sill. Also cut out the drivers floor panel above the mount. Also remove the body mounting bolt. Should then be able to fabricate repair panels and have access to weld easier.

See the photos below to give you an idea of cuts to the outer sill and also rot around the body mounting.

The rot around the mounting looking from below showing the rot to the inner sill.

This photo shows the hole in the floor where it curls down from the wheel arch.

Hi Jim
The fliter is a K&N 57i I think, got it new so only done around 7000 miles if I remember rightly it doesnt need cleaning till around 50000 you can get a cleaning kit for them...

Martin

Cheers Martin, glad you are still around. Feel free to keep in touch. The truck is great, just waiting for some time to get on with it. Got the steel plates already to go.

Remember when you cut the sill open there are inner gussets too. So more to cut out if they're still there. If the sill is good on the outside I'd leave it work from the inside and the floor :D

OK Pete, I'll start from above first and see how it goes from there. Will still remove wings n steps to give better access though. I won't have a weekend free for a few weeks so I can try doing some stripping down when I have a free evening. I really must get a life and stop voluteering for things as it gets in the way :doh

The Work Has Begun

OK started removing stuff to let the dog see the rabbit! Got a weekend off so we'll be off to Machine Mart on Saturday morning

Here's what we did tonight.

The wings were no surprise when we removed the mouldings.

Here's the Drivers footwell, you can see where someone put a patch on the outside of the arch without removing the carpets. Quite a large hole to repair, this will take some planning so that I can repair the inner sill below.

You can see where there has been a leak behind the pedals, not sure where this has come from yet.

Passenger side front footwell, I've circled the holes. This side isn't too bad, it'll be the Inner wing that will be a pig.

Removed the manly side step from the Drivers side.

That's all for now folks, any advice will be appreciated.

Just got back from Machine Mart and a gas supplier. Have now got alsorts of goodies including a nice big bottle of argoshield.

Bumper off this afternoon.

Make sure you don't cause any fires, that seam sealer burns well!

I find a electric wire brush on a drill or grinder clears seam sealer.

Bumper and Wings Removed

Well after a mornings shopping at Machine Mart and a gas supplier I thought it was time to have a go and remove the front end to see what other damage there is and sure enough the Cross Member will need replacing and the bumper reinforce looks like a simple clean up and a section patched should be fine. Anyway here's the next instalment of photos for you.

So here's the bumper reinforce, you can see where it needs a good clean and treatment along with a repair.

Now here's the sorry looking Cross Member

Now the turn of the wings, not too bad only snapped 3 bolts:doh

Front body mountings, think they just need a dam good clean and maybe a plate from the front panel.

With a bit of luck this is the last of the real destruction other than cutting out the rot. Next will be constructive, cleaning and treating and start on the plating up.

Must be nice getting involved in a project like that and not worry about needing it to use it in a couple of days to take the mother in law out. [emoji16]

Yep have to give yourself time to sort these issues, do it once, do it right, Rick

You do have to wonder Rick, just how many peoples trucks will be like this and not picked up yet. Normally only an MOT would pick it up, lets face it even the tester of this truck didn't pick it up.
