So I have had my 02 reg terrano tdi for 3 months now... so far the 'issues' are as follows....

water pump needed changing - did that
juddering in reverse, changed rear diff oil to fix....did that
broken drivers seat...fixed that
no air con...regassed to fix that
crap healights, changed bulbs to nightbreakers...fixed that
broken wipers ...still trying to fix that one.....

went out in it today and now the b****y steering is clonking on full lock :doh

Anyone think this lot is normal????? Thinking I shoulda got the LR freelander after all :lol:lol:lol

i think for that you need to grease the steering stops, not 100% but i'm sure i've seen it mentioned on here before

i wanna know how fr** loader got past swear filter lol does sound like the stops my old maverick used to do it i just lived with clonking and schreeching front front (could always have been some poor pedestrian lol)

same as mine then but my wipers work

i get help

best cure is hit full lock then back off a little, it don't do it then, and it is kinder to the steering joints, saves all that getting grease all over the place, Rick

You dont want a gaylander :doh
Better a bad day with Terrano than a life with a gaylander:lol
A friend of mine bought one for his wife to tow her horses about with. It pulled the horse box fine till she put a horse in it, then she could never get it out the field:lol
Needless to say the gaylander has gone on to ebay success and she now has a dirty great Navara:sly

Quite right, I've never greased mine :D

I had the same issue, quite alarming, greased them and its been fine ever since-so simple.:thumb2

thanks guys.... looks like another little job to do next weekeknd :lol:lol:lol.. Dont get me wrong i lurve the terrano to bits as it is such a nice drive just all the little 'issues' over 3 months is more than the last car in 5 years :):) However that one was french and wouldnt tow my caravan :confused: hence the terrano.... spent a little while checking fuses, wiring and connectors this arvo to see if I could get the wipers working properly but no... back to the drawing board!! Am convinced it is the wiper amp (whatever and wherever one is.....) so will have to look harder...

Did a lot of research on gaylanders before the terrano and decided they are even less reliable than the terrano (big issues = LOTS of money to fix) so steered away from them in the end, so honour intact still :clap:clap... also I thought if your gonna have a 4x4 it might as well be a 'proper' one:naughty

try not to be too put off with the little niggles. Once you have them sorted, you'll probably get years of reliability from it. When I got mine, I ended up with LOADS of very expensive issues. one by one over a LONG time I sorted them, and its been fine ever since and I havent serviced it or anything as yet. MOT due, so im doing that first, then if all is wlel, im sorting a few minor issues such as rusty front arches, tracking to do and erm...well, thats it really, not bad for such an old motor.

got your folding mirrors sorted yet clive ?

most things are easy to fix on the terrano. Most 2nd hand cars have stuff that needs ironing out too.

I've learnt so much stuff since getting mine, All from this great forum.

I agree they are great trucks, have given mine a mini service when I got it - ALL oils, filters, clutch fluid, anti freeze (when I did the water pump) regassed the aircon ( used one of those diy bottles) new tyres, front drive gaiters.... have issues with the tow bar electrics but that is due to the complete moron who did the electrics (man its BAD :eek:) before I got it but have a new set of double caravan elelctric so will fit that properly in the next few weeks... also going to 'convert' the stop lights to have a side light in them too... may fit a switch in the cubby hole to be able to switch them off for mot's :)naughty:naughty) just in case it upsets the tester !!! In the process of making a rear luggage cover from ply and leather cloth too :thumb2

I made one of those when I first got the mav, 1/4" ply and some grey Draylon, to suit the interior.

no, I forgot about them. I need help doing it as I know nothing about electrics. The plan is to get it through the MOT, then im starting a few projects on the car this includes the mirrors, fixing both front arches and sorting the bumpers properly back to black plus some other bits and bobs, lots to do but im actually looking forward to it.
