Legal or not it looks like it'd be lethal to anyone unfortunate to be in a crash with that truck......wouldn't want it on mine.
I doubt a Traffic cop would take too kindly to it if you got stopped.

You can see the traffic cops or worse the insurance accessors (if ever needed) looking at the winch and saying, 'did you declare this modification with your insurance company' ?

I was thinking the same. Fair bit of overhang can't be nice handling with that weight so far forward of the axle. :doh

The bars obscure the front lights as well.

NOW if this assembly was quick fit, ie you could fit it just before off roading, should keep plod happy.

For on road, it must be illegal, but under what legislation?

Come to that, what about front tow bars, ok they stick out a bit, but what is the limit?

If 100mm is ok and 600mm isn't.... then at what point does it become illegal?:nenau

Edit:
Where is the front number plate??

.

as far as i remember front "bullbars " wrere made illegal to SELL in 2002, BUT you can fit a used IE pre2002made bullbar to any car and you can still put a new or used one on a pre2002 registered car. also nudge/A bars aree still legal so it only makes a difference if you "glance" a pedestrian. my moter told me he passes them anyway as if you run somebody over theyl usualy go under or over a 4x4 anyway. i know the idea is its nsafer to impact a larger area then a metal tube but they just look so damn cool:lol

You could have one of these for 60 quid more :D

Very nice bumper Makeitfit might be a future investment..

Cheers Gav

Aside from the previously stated fact that the fitment shown is illegal because it obstructs the headlights, the legalese around bull bars/A bars/nudge bars is enough to make your head spin (I have the docs if anyone wants 'em).

In short:

From 25th May 2007 for motor vehicles categorised as M1 (a passenger carrying vehicle not exceeding 3.5 tonnes and not more than 8 passengers) or N1 (a goods vehicle not exceeding 3.5 tonnes) it will only be legal to manufacturer and sell bull bars that comply with EU Directive 2005/66/EC.

It will be illegal to manufacture and sell bull bars that do not conform to this legislation punishable by a maximum penalty, to be imposed within the UK, of 12 months imprisonment and/or a fine of £20,000.

Operators of vehicles already fitted with these devices will not be affected.

A rider on the last sentence: If your vehicle had 'frontal protection system' available from it's manufacturer for the exact model and year, then you can get away with them without too much grief.

Of course, you can stick 'em on regardless; But you're buggered if you have a prang with 'em on, even if the damage is at the back, unless you declare them to your insurance company, and we know how much insurers love modified vehicles.

So how does a steel bumper bolted to the front, fixed to the chassis, with no crumple or plastic, fair in a similar situation? :nenau

I was thinking it may have been a removable winch plate??? but doubt it on a plastic bumper, Bull bars are a grey area but i do like them personally, as for obscuring light it depends how they are obscured as light guards also do obscure

Apart from what you have all already said, that is the ugliest install ever... what would anyone want to buy that and ruin their car by putting it on?

And on the same lines, I have started to see more and more cars with a cheese cutter, tight bit of thin wire running from the front bull bars or bonnet edge, up to the roof, supposedly to stop branches hitting the windscreen...

I dread to think how much damage they would do to a pedestrian if you hit one, and I was wondering on the legality of them.

I defo recon thats illegal!! unless its an offroad vehicle only, Plus i't'd take someone's head clean off

i think itd depend on the size of the leading edge. i THINK it has to be 6mm minimum, rounded obviously, still wouldnt fancy your chances though.

Cheese wire is nothing, what about the humungous spikes on tractors for picking up monster bales :D
As with all these mods, inform your insurance company :thumbs
