The drive home tonight was absolutely epic... Not intended, but epic!
The main route home was blocked by the police so I proceeded onto the secondary route... This was eventually blocked by a Jack-knifed truck awaiting recovery and the traffic was insane! :doh
So I doubled back on myself and headed onto some farm roads that I knew would get me round the truck and back on the road.
These roads were awesome... Free of cars and a variety of driving situations! Sometimes the road was compacted snow, and other times fresh snow that had blown off the fields covering the road completely!
A few of the roads had snow drifts either side of the road that came to window height on my Patrol!
Not to mention the fact that they were just wide enough for me to squeeze thru! :naughty
After all that I was back on the main road... Less than a mile of driving and that road was also shut by the Police! Obviously there was no point in driving back all the way up that road, as I'd just be waiting on the Jack-knifed truck to be rescued!
So as the daylight was beginning to fade, it was back onto the fun Farm roads. :naughty
I'd only been on that road for a couple of minutes before I came across a Kia Sportage heading in the opposite direction, who had become stuck. I got the shovel out, had a little dig and then gave them a push and we were all on our way.
I came to the road I needed, but because of HUGE snow drifts, I couldn't go that way!
Doubling back on myself once more I took another road... This time the way was blocked by a Land Rover D4. There was another pick-up trying to tow him out but it was a no go... They gave up and the guy abandoned his car, blocking the way!
Only one more route I can take now.. So I headed off. By now darkness had set in and the snow blowing off the fields was blinding!
Again I came across two stuck vehicles! :doh
One was a VW Golf or something, that just should not of been on that road and the other was a Land Rover Defender! They were stuck side by side blocking an already thin road!
We managed to get the VW moved and sent him back the way he came. I could get round now, but did the kind thing to help the guy in the Defender. I had to use the Patrol to drag the Defender backwards out of his drift!
The guy thanked me, then proceeded to drive back into the same tracks he was just hauled out off! :doh
So for the second time, I dragged him out! :lol
From then on, I was off the farm roads and only had the general public to worry about, but it wasn't too eventful!
The drive home took about 4 hours longer than it should of... But I had an absolute blast! :naughty
