Help, car ran perfect yesterday , press start button this morning turns as if the engine is fireing before TDC ? its this fly by signal fuel system,I know i,ll have to sort it [with help hopefully]. but has anybody done a retro build on the fuel system [mech fuel pump and pedal etc] it would be interesting to know and it may well cure a lot of problems in the system, it seem,s that i have a lot more hiccups with the TDI than i had with the mav hope you folk can help.

You are right.
It is fairly simple to convert a TDI back to TD spec with all mechanical fuelling leaving the TDI injectors in place. A TD pump opened up somewhat will liberate similar or more power as the TDI.
Helps to have a scrap vehicle to rob the bits from though. You need to leave the TDI ECU in place except for the inj.pump connector as its functions will still be needed for glowplug control, immobilizer, instruments and a/c if fitted. Remove the MIL bulb as it will be lit all the time.

thanks for your help mate ,I dont think it,s the mechanics i think its the fuel system and elecs i,m not getting any fuel through first injector thats happened before then i fiddled around not found real reason for stoppage then started ok. now mil light has come on engine turns over ok still no fuel from injecter. any more good advice would be most helpful. thanks ray
