Is it just me that hates technology?

I hate the way it controls you, decides what it thinks you should be doing. I just want to press a button and something happens that I want to happen not what it thinks I should want. It goes from phones, computers pretty much anything that is so called smart. I hate the flipping virgin tivo box, just simply changing channels is a fight with it. Windows 10, 8.1, 8.

Even this ipad, I want to type a string of numbers like above, no it changes to letters after a comma.

Unless it's a sign that I'm getting old:nenau

I'm hanging on in there but hated the i pad. Android seems so intuitive by comparison.
Win 10 seems way better than that hatefull 8
Phones are awesome. TV you say, erm, :augie:nenau

dear auto correct ...... at no point I have I ever meant to say plucking

just you, Jim!

I love tech, me!

I love all my gadgets, I love the direction technology is progressing, because its closer to the future I dreamed about as a kid!

Wow Jim, I agree with you, the ipad screen can't be calibrated so it misreads your finger and thyes sorry types what it wants.
I also have the same issue with the Yeti so called automatic climate control, the temperature varies so much it's unbelievable... I will have to review the manual again. The Mav, you have foir sorry mistype again should be, four speed settings on the heater blower inc. off, direct the heat to where you want and it stays that way....
Take electronic timers for the house, if you can recall how to set them, :doh you are there adjusting it for the hour difference, then for two on and off cycles per day, that can be different if you want, but the good old fashioned mechanical motor driven timers with push pins do a similar job, but every day the same lol, and if you have a power cut for an hour, the mechanical timer in an hoir oit too sorru
Typo again... (hour out too sorry)
Damn ipad...
I winder if it is me lol (wonder)

I wholeheartedly agree and think it is an age thing. The younger generations and will defend to the (virtual) death the fact that life is so much better now that they've handed control of it over to Google/Microsoft/Apple et al. I don't like that many apps need to know my location.
Why does the flashlight app need to know where I am?

The one really good thing about the tivo box is that it's so dam complicated and inteligent that it's far easier not to watch it.

For my volunteer work last week they got some new laptops and said your into that sort of thing set em up. Noooooooooo the blinking things are insistent on you having a microsoft live account. I don't want one, they aren't mine I just want people to turn it on and use the internet. Got that sorted now they've bought a one year office license, can't get out of that one you need a Microsoft account. WHY Mr Microsoft? Just work far easier.

My phones takes so long to do anything I can run off and make a cuppa whilst I'm waiting for it and that is after being brain deaded in several ways.

Think I'm going to move to Alaska and live off grid:clap

Arghh don simon, don't get me started. That's privacy! It's the same as why do the need access to texts and to send texts and phone calls?

Off grid it's the way to go. Simple diesel engines, it's the way to go:lol

vorsprung durch technik ...... progress through technology ........ the motto of the vw / audi group ....... enough said :augie:lol

TomTom, earlier this year I bought a new one. Tomtom start and forgotten the model but it has a large screen, ace I thought large screen I might stand a chance of being able to see it. Jeez it's horrible to use, doesn't have points of interest, can't move my saved locations or anything. Even telling it you want to go somewhere is like having an argument with the wife, it always wins. My old faithful tomtom one version one is so much easier to program and use. It even works out that actually you don't want to go that way, you want to go the way you are going.

Well done. :D :clap

Don't start me on sat navs! I had a trip to Leeds last week. A little risky on the M60, M61 and M62 due to the a combination of traffic and fog. Estimated time was about 2 hours.
Or I could have gone over the M65 and cross country for more or less the same time but with less risk.
Selected that route on Google maps and set off.
A mile before the M65, I was told that there was a faster route and I should turn right, this I did thinking it would get me out of the stationary traffic and onto the Motorway sooner.
Half an hour later, and a total of an hour longer on the whole journey, I was heading towards the M62 as it had wanted to do all along.

It had also found the fastest route into Manchester a couple of weeks earlier that took just under 3 hours (17 miles)...

Rubbish!

Glad i'm not the only one Jim got a new Tomtom start last year with life time updates but it's no where as good as my old Tomtom one V3 which had the option of fastest route (main roads only) or shortest route plus you could change the arrow to a little T2:thumbs sadly my old one keeps shutting down on it's own now & takes ages before it'll restart then only lasts a minute before shutting down:doh. TBH don't really like the way tech is going these days far to many apps wanting to access your phone book etc to much of big brother watching you:augie Modern tech I think is having a negative effect on kids these days as most can't do anything apart from being stuck in front of a TV on a games console & if their phone plays up it's the end of the world:doh
