anyway back to the plot!

surely you wouldn't need a constant stream? if you used the washer jet idea if you give the itercooler a good squirt the cooling effect would last until it was dry again? I konw that wouldn't be long but a constant stream would quickly deplete even a decent sized resorvoir i would have thought?

my idea re-direct the rear screen jet pipework and use that? would it work? I haven't owned a T2 for a while so cant remember the set up of the washer system.

you missing it here

you NEED the water to evaporate instantly otherwise the water does jack shit apart from hold heat

you need a fine mist , not like from a washer jet , more like a plant sprayer on its finest setting.

no I htink you are missing it, we have discussed the washer jet idea does (to an extent) work, that is established!

no it wont 'hold heat' it will evaporate and in doing so take heat with it! hence the whole point regardless of mist or spray! think of this, if it were posssible to sick the whole intercooler in a bucket of cold water, it would (of course) run colder but that is of course not possible hence the spray idea.

I am not uggesting the washer pipe system and jet is the best method but just worth a try? if you could get a finer nozel than a washer jet ll the better, but if you can use the rear screen pipe, you have the wiring, reservoir, pum, switch, etc. all in place for a quick experiment, so has to be worth a try.

fine droplets of water will heat up quickly and evaporate , large droplets of water will be mostly wasted by being too heavy and dripping out from the bottom.

run round the block a few times then squirt yourself in face with a fine mist of water , then do it again and squirt yourself in the forehead with a continuous stream , the water runs down your face and is wasted and doesnt cool anything , the fine mist evaporates and cools you down.

like I said not the best method but a good start!

I have merely offered a starting point for experimenting that has been tried with some success by others on other vehicles nothing more.

Now fitting!

Here we are again then:D
I'm in the process of fitting this lot now:augie
Water jet spray, as on scoobies :thumbs
Electric intercooler fan, as on scoobies :thumb2
PLUS some sort of thermostatic switch, who knows where from and where to fit it?:nenau
I've got a push'n'hold switch for manual squirt, but would like to fit some sort of gauge to monitor intake temp, and some sort of thermostatic switch for the fan to come on:rolleyes:
Help please:augie

This came up in a recent engine chat.
I want more low down power (amongst other stuff) and was going to fit an electric fan. Then some bright spark said to spray it:sly
SO pros and cons please. I can get water spray kits for about 40 squid.
If at slow speeds say off roading , somewhere legal,is there enough air over the intercooler to make the spray work enough? Can the two be combined?
Cheers

Pointless on a 4x4 M8
But
YES to the fans :thumbs

Well for 30 squid I thought it's worth a test:sly
Will be doing a rolloing road on it too in a couple of weeks.
Going to try it with all the mods switched on and off
IE LPG
Intercooler fan
Water jet and fan
Tunit box
Exhaust mods
Probably wont have the turbo sorted by then but will be good to go with this lot for next team wales bash:naughty

Water spray is best on high power or heat producing petrol turbos.!

On the dino the water spray will show a minor increase but in real road especially off road it will do nothing at all.!
It needs cold air forced onto it to mist it over the inter cooler to have an effect & better still if it is front mounted :thumbs

Will talk more about it to ya next weekend :thumbs

Tunit fitted yet, or are you having fun with the wiring loom?

FUN ha, no still taking the bloody plastic apart. Got into it tonight but got sidetracked by winning a 93 squid maverick:D
Just a little petrol jobbie for trashing about in,oh and experimenting with:naughty

we spoke to pauls chemist today and got some good ideas on fueling

top secret of course

Ah chemistry :augie
I think that was the class I got blown out of :augie
Undid one of the hoses to the bunsen burner a bit....................some time later:doh oops :wasntme

tis still top secret:augie:lol:lol:lol

Don't forget to get hold of some of that special chemical, with some of that OTHER special chemical added...need to see how it performs on a long haul back home....:naughty

Fitted and working

Here you go boys, I've fitted the fan, all 11" of it AND my water spray nozzles:thumbs
Went for 11" over the downloads 10" cause it was cheaper on the bay(£24.99) and puts more fan blade over the intercooler.
The rubber bellows thing needed a little trim to makeitfit:augie
Fitted a couple of watyer misting nozzles too. They squirt onto the blades at the moment and seem to soak the I/C ok.
Not had a chance to try the water bit out yet but will get it hot tomorrow and see what happens.
The fan bit defo makes a difference, well pleased.
Just waiting for CPC to deliver the thermo switch and then it'll be all auto but with an overide switch:D
12072009509.jpg

Just got the water bottle to fit between the others
12072009510.jpg

Fan switched here and an old Scooby I/C spray switch does the water
12072009512.jpg

It's a hold only switch as you only need a bit of water now and again probably:augie
Needs a bit more filing to makeitfit properly though!
