Sounds exactly the problem I have when towing uphills in europe. Caused by the engine overheating is yours an auto box or manual??

power loss still a problem

Ok guys get ya thinking caps on.
Thought I had cracked it with your help fitted new maf sensor have full power and acceleration for a day and a bit, get in it to come home from work tonight and guess wot the damned thing looses power again drops from 60mph to just above 35-40 mph. Pulled over to road side car idles perfectly no problem but lack of power turned off ignition restarted vehicle start to drive home and same thing happens again 4 times this happens 4th time problem clears and away we go like a sky rocket no problems, there are no warning lights illuminated on the dash everything looks normal in that department, is it an electronic fault somewhere as when the ignition is turned off and vehicle is restarted it clears the problem all be it after 4 attempts, could it be the egr valve, or fuel starvation, I just dont know bit of a strange one this to me any help or ideas on what it could be?????????

cheers big-john................

No, still a MAF issue.

If the ECU sees an unexpected signal from the MAF, be it too high, or too low from what it expects at a certain throttle angle / revs etc, then it will go into limp mode which gives you very little power.

Check your connector, and the wiring.

Did you fit a genuine MAF?

No he put a sausage up there.

SCREECH! Sorry couldn't resist...

What Timbo means is, did you put an eBay sausage up there or was it a genuine Nissan sausage; eBay sausages have been known to malfunction and the Nissan sausage isn't much more expensive.

Sorry, sausage = MAF but then everyone knows that....

it was an ebay suasage

wot do you reckon then get a genuine one from nissan will it be a bosch or something like that????
So when I turn off the ignition and restart the vehicle it temporarily clears the problem is this the reason, is the maf getting the wrong signals and is duff to put it lightly (an ebay duff sausage)

the maff is so easy to clean its worth a try, I clean mine every six months take no more than ten mins. Unplug wire, take out two screws, pull out sensor (carefully) look inside and you can see two tiny elements, these should be clean and shiny I spray them with switch cleaner and maybe wipe them gently with a cotton bud. regards bri

Bigjohn just check whats written on the MAF when you get it out - if its a Bosch part you are laughing as its cheap, if it says Hitachi it will be painful as you'll see from other threads....

Hi Big-John has your fuel filter been changed recentley

loss of power cont...

Ok have now changed maf sensor for one off my other t2 it did the same thing died slowly from around 60mph so I know the new maf is ok it works fine in the other t2. So that now leads me to egr valve tried the ball bearing thing that didnt work it still died took ball bearing out and on way back home power was better but still under powered, Have taken the egr valve off wot an ass to get to but me n me pal got it off have found that there is one gasket missing and where the other should have been it was gunked up with some sort of sealant that appears NOT to have done the job the valve does move when you press it also when ya suck on the pipe at the top of egr valve (i suggest if ya want to suck it dont clean it first it dont taste good) have now ordered 2 new copper gaskets from nissan at £8 + vat for the pair am now hoping this will do the job will let you know when its fitted fingers crossed parts in on weds mornin. So the question is if the seals/gaskets had gone in my case a bodge job by someone with sealant of some kind would that cause a loss of power primarily because it either sucking air in through where the gasket has failed or is non existant??

cheers john...
