Right, got quotes on missus car to keep it on the road (the Ka)

Got a cheap quote which we had planned, set up the payments and proceeded, once i paid I realised stupid confused.com had set the start date for the 18th January.. :doh

I rang up the insurance comp, he wants to charge me 25 quid for admin fee to change it...

And also another 58 quid for the gap... bearing in mind a whole month is only 55 quid insurance.... :nenau

I now have another quote with same details starting tomorrow which I will quote them, hoping just to get stung the 25 quid..:( as I have proven the cost is the same regardless on start date.

He was suggesting booking in advance is cheaper... I have disproved that...

Any ideas?

Do you not get a 14 day cooling off period with no charge for cancellation:nenau

Should do actually, I wonder if law?

Edit - seems not

Cancelling at the start of the policy
UK insurance rules state that consumers have a 14-day ‘cooling-off’ period when they buy most kinds of cover. This means that, if you want to end a policy within two weeks of receiving your documentation, you should receive a more-or-less full refund of your premiums. But you may have to pay an administration fee, which is typically less than a full cancellation charge, as well as the cost of however many days you were covered for.

So if your policy hasn’t come into effect when you cancel, you should only have to pay the administration charge. You won’t be able to cancel in this way if you’ve made any claims within the cooling-off period.

Alex, who's cock up was it, if you stated that you wanted the insurance to start from the date of your phone call and they made the mistake, it's their problem and they should correct it for free. If you didn't specify the start date, it's your problem.
Their phone calls are recorded so you should be able to get to the bottom of this.

Alex I had this when I bought my truck, sure it's done on purpose, they couldn't ammendment policy to start earlier so I had to cancel for which they charged, then to set up new policy cost 45 more to start just one week sooner, I argued with the manager at hastings direct but only managed to get the 25 back :-(

Well to me, following your wording above, it is Confused.com that have made the error.
"They" have set the wrong start date...

Unless of course you told them that date, then any costs are down to you.
As said already, if you think it is them, get them to go through the recording of the transaction, they are always willing to do this, we had a similar cause to complain with another supplier. A well known Building Society..
I was right, as always, :augie and we even got an inconvienience offer of £5 for their error. To cut a long story short... they got it wrong on two later occasions, again with similar compensation. So know your rights.

On the other hand... it works both ways, are you so sure that you are right regarding the dates that you would be willing to compensate them, if you were wrong, and wasting their time?
Well I guess you are with an Admin fee...:nenau
Anyhow, your MOT costs were much lower than any of us could have ever expected, so treat yourself...
:lol:lol

Should have got uncle Rustic to call up :lol

Yes confused.com chose and populated the start date.. My fault for not paying closer attention.

The guy last night wanted to charge me 84 quid...

I walked away today with a new policy starting immediately 34 quid out of pocket... Not so bad...

strange thing insurance ........ is there anything else we buy hoping we never use it ? :nenau
