Hi carter, it's simple, UK CB works on a wavelenth of 11 metres, a quarter of 11 metres is just over 9 ft so you have a quarter wave antenna.

does anybody know what the depth of that cubby hole is? would be nice to get a flush fit, perhaps a DIN radio might work better.

very nice install though, certainly would like mine to be similar!

Not much space and I think it's too small for a din socket. unless you cut into it more and make a new face.

my cb just about fits. I needed to use a right angled pl259 connector for the antenna socket.

Well yesterday I bit the bullet and fitted my old Amstrad 901 CB radio into a modified cubby hole similar to Fez's installation, Alan Sugar would have been impressed.:augie

The mic socket is on the left side so I had to position the radio so that the mic socket could be accessed through the side but just in front of the vent.
I also bolted it in via the sides of the cubby hole.
It was necessary to remove part of the rear and the top of the cubby hole.

There was nowhere to easily fit the aerial. It was originally a gutter mount, but just above the base loaded coil, there is a sleeve that if you unscrew the collar and lift, the mast can be folded 90 degrees on it's side.

Since I garage my Mav, there was no headroom to leave it fitted, so I engineered a special aluminium bracket that places the mount next to the windscreen on the driver's side. Close to the windscreen wiper.

The bracket uses one of the bonnet hinge M8 fixing bolts, and I am still able to lift and close the bonnet with the aerial in place. Took several attempts to get it right, a hack saw, big hammer, and a vice. I used a piece of 3mm anodised aluminium, which was recycled from an old 2u 19" panel. I think the panel is older than the radio....:lol BUT not as old as me....

Also when I am in the Mav, I can reach around to fold the aerial before going into the garage.

Oh and it works even after all this time, it must be close to 30 years old.
It was first fitted to a W reg Mk 3 Escort. 1981 vintage.:thumb2

However the language hasn't changed much, which was the main reason for not using it when my young kids were in the car, all those years ago.:doh

Bought mine off 4x4CB.com. I ordered mine the day before Christmas eve & it turned up the next morning. I ordered on the website but what i chose was out of stock so did a deal on a better unit & the guy rang to check all ok.

Yes I believe you can upload as an attachment using the paperclip icon on the toolbar at the top of the message box. When the upload box appears it has a key to advise maximum file sizes.

Mounted mine to the right of the steering wheel as I already have a Dab radio in the cubby hole. Aerial is on a mag mount and in a very tasteful yellow ;O)

Don't forget you need to SWR the antenna......well we did in the olden days, still have the old swr meter from my trucking days 10-10

Never mind the olden day's you still do:thumbs possibly more important now with the advent of more channels.

For what it's worth I've found the best spot for aerials has been to buy a clamp for the roof rails. Remember to remove it when you drive under anything low I forget sometimes but soon know about it:doh

Also don't forget to remove it when driving though the monkey enclosure at Longleat
safari park as they like chewing the cable ;O(

I've got an '00 Terrano and fitted my CB in the hole/pocket/thingy infront of the gear stick:

Wired into the fuse panel and managed to run the coax down the passenger side completely hidden behind panels and under carpet, I'm using a 5ft Firestik mounted on the spare carrier:

Here's mine in the troll, a quick wind of insulting tape and the aerial out the door and slapped on the bonnet. 2 mins and that's only 'cause I couldn't find the end of the tape

Plus I get 60 channels

I take it you mounted it upside down for the next time you park it on the roof and need to see what channel your on to call for recovery?
