Hi club,

got a maverick 2.7td glx lwb.
also got an OLD cb radio with a 9ft whip aerial and a gutter connection.
i need to know where to mount the aerial and the cb.

preferably cb mounted high so as not to get wet when swimming!

any ideas, lets throw them around and see what we come up with.

Hi mate. I have mine mounted on the dash over the radio. The aerial, as I know, can only be mounted with a mag mount and the middle of the roof is best. Hope this helps??

If you are not concerned about the bodywork, you can get a mount that will need a hole drilling through and is permanently fixed.

I don't know if it would work :? but I was wondering if a mirrow mount would fit onto the roof rails if you've got them

Hi,

But on the lines of CBs, Has anyone got one for sale?.

I know its a bit choosey, but would like a Midland 78 if possible or something small,

Mav, only paid about £25 for ours on Flebay and it's almost new.

By the way Carter fitted our cb in the cubby hole thing at the bottom on the dash where it goe's down to the gear lever.

Thanks Paul223, I have been looking on there but very concerned about second hand CBs, New i think is ok but then you have to pay the price.

But i will keep looking.

Thanks again,

Mav.

Thanks Sweety, Was it a one off?, or was he a seller, If he was a seller have you still got his name?,

We had someone give us a link to a shop that was going to give us 5% but cannot find the link now.

Think there was one in Kirton lindsey (Lincolnshire) too.

To much to remember!

Sweety that's exactly what I use to mount aerials. A bit of adjustment to the bolt holes and it works a treat. However since I did this you can now buy proper roof rail clamps.

On eBay this is the seller to look out for. I bought all my aerial things from him and he is a specialist cb dealer. here is his seller id, search on this.
26hb896. email address is [email protected]. quite a helpfull chap as well if i recall correctly.

Mag mount might not be strong enough to fit a nine foot long whip aerial?
Also, if mounted on the roof, then it would be far to high up to go under bridges.

It was me who gave you the link with 5% discount on the CB.........I paid £80 it was not a midland [but the guy is a midland dealer] in the price was a rather large good quality mag mount. he also soldered a fused connection on for the socket in vehicle, he also tested the radio in situe and a cup of coffee thrown in. that was what I call good service

Oh and 12 month warranty.

On the beginners course I could hear everyone LOUD and CLEAR.
I have had CBs years ago and to be honest the one I bought was good for the job.
My CB is pushed into the orifice in the centre column [where you would normally put your specs and things ] 8O

Thanks Carter and Thor for you help,

Carter, I had this man in my watch list and yes he does it for a living, So by rights needs to give a good service to survive,

As for your 9 ft aerial, Bet it looks like a dodgem at the fair ground!.

Thor, Thanks for the link, Long way to go for a cup of tea, But he sounds like a helpful bloke and pleased to have your business.

May just give him a ring.

Errr ....... not quite everyone. My Midland 78 is faulty and wouldn't transmit. :(

It's only a few weeks old and Communication Eleven are swapping it for a new one under warranty - so next time, you might have to put up with my drivel too.

Cheers

Useful info,I bought my CB via e-bay from the CB shack at Pop 2000 services at Lymm, and while they prices were good when I picked it up they were too busy really to offer any help with set up. Might give this guy a try.

In terms of where to mount the CB, in my T2 becuase it is a twin airbag model, I don't have the extra little storage & grab handle in front of the passenger. So the little space in front of the gearlever is taken up with kipple. What I did was mounted the bracket on the left hand side of the centre console, with the CB mounted on its side. Its easy to remove if I need to, and the controls are OK to reach.

I also use a small extension speaker on this set up, becuase otherwise the CB speaker is a bit muffled, and I had a spare speaker from an old hardwired handsfree kit. Makes it much easier to hear the important stuff but also the general babble & chat!

cb

Maplin do a small CB with mag mount antenna for about £50 (Moonraker) or go to Moonrakerukltd.com for a full range of CB radios and antennas

If you are only using your cb for laning and short distances just get a cheap and cheerful cb and aerial, don't think there is any need for a 9ft aerial(think that's a full wave!) Just one of the spring loaded whips and a strong mag mount in the middle of the roof should be ok,remember to check your s.w.r though!!!

got a good deal on the 9ft aerial, so thought it a good idea at the time.
i have no idea at all what full wave is, nor what s.w.r is.

could you please tell me? this will be the first time ever i have had a cb radio and i have no idea what goes on in the installation or setting up of the thing. i just seem to remember smoky and the bandit!
