Hi everyone.

Still hoping to get some help from the folk in the know!!
I believe my injection pump on my 3.0 terrano is knachared. But want to be sure before trying to source a new one!
Can anyone advise me on how to check the pump timing? Also. Through speaking to others, was mentioned timing chain might be stretched causing timing issue. Has anyone had this problem? And if so how did you diagnose?

Many thanks for help!

Marc

I've got good pump if required. Think you need to get them re coded to ecu.

Does the 3 have a chain? all the others are gear driven, cncfabs should know, Rick

you think it's knackered... okay well i know mine was so lets try these symptoms...

Does it stall randomly at the traffic lights or intersections?
HArd to start as if you suspect the glow plugs weren't working properly?
loses power randomly when driving(like you've taken your foot of the trottle a bit) then maybe a minute later(more or less) it drives fine again?
Runs rough?
IF you turn the key to the on position you here funny noises coming from that side of the engine?

Thanks for replies.
I believe the chain only really drives the pump. Not 100% sure though!
It has been hard to start. And previous owner had burnt out starter motor.
But starts okay now and will idle fine for 10 seconds then idle drops and eml comes on. And tuns very rough with a lot of white smoke. Code 0707 is present.
Will not take any throttle until warmed up. Will idle and heat up sometimes.
Has no power to get up hills, etc. Won't rev past 2750 ish.
Doesn't generally stall once heated up and going though.
No overly noticed funny noises.. . although is a fell rattly thing on general! (Hasn't been overly looked after!)

Cheers

Okay, short of cleaning the MAF, It's sounds like it's time for a rebuild/new/mechanical pump swap.

Start saving.

Cant remember the exact set up but will check the but im almost sure the ip is gear driven as is the pas pump which sits right next to it then the cam is chain driven

Yep cncfabs has it, on the 3.0 everything is gear driven apart from the cam which is driven by a chain off the pump, as a result it's rare that the chain ever needs replacing.

So all this time, the 3.0 has been knocked because of the chain drive, is wrong then :nenau

Harder to get 2nd hand parts for them, And also more expensive.
Many of the bigger engine jobs have a higher book hour so will take longer and/or cost you more at a garage.
2.7s are cheaper to buy

Probably a few other things, but can't remember. Don't get me wrong it's a good engine, Just saying the 2.7 is generally a better engine for most.

Oh OK
Had both and still prefer the 3.0L for my uses :)

Is it possible to fit a 2.7 into a 3ltr?

Got to say all the jobs ive done on the 3.0 have been far easier and quicker than 2.7 these are pas pump injection pump and most of all the turbo can be removed without going under the car and no awkward bolts to contend with

Thanks for input. Can anyone help with diagnosing pump? Or checking timing?
Can anyone confirm what cncfabs said about coding? Nissan trip? Or possible to do at home?

Thanks

P.s. going to pm you cncfabs.

the VP44 IP and ECU are paired, so, yes dealer visit probably will be required.
