Bit odd this one, but I'm hoping there will be help out there.

I currently have a faulty ignition switch (the bit that sits on the bottom of the barrel) and a replacment is on order from nissan (£31.30 +vat).

However the engine malfunction light came on this morning and the code said 18 (crankshaft Pos sensor). It's now difficult to start (once started runs ok). Also checked the fuel filter for water and when I turned the thumbscrew at the bottom nothing came out , not even diesel ! (I turned it a few turns).

Also when it revs over 2000 rpm the abs light comes on, but it appears to work fine. ( I had the cable on the n/s repaired about a year ago)

Could it all be related to the dodgy igniton switch, it's a bit of a coincidence.

Any Ideas ? Not even sure where to start first.

:nenau My crank position error code is 0047 :nenau
I was beaten to a pulp on here about my bloody ignition switch being faulty and it WAS NOT:eek:
However the error 0047 CPS may too have been a coincidence but as yet unanswered!
Maybe you'll have more luck:eek:

sulky bitch. :lol:lol:lol

i thnk 18 is fuel quantity adjuster...mine got the same, and again no water out the drain, so I am changing the filter....

the original fault was definitely the ignition switch and it is code 18

Odd one as you say! re the diesel filter, it should definitely leak all over your hand when you undo the srew at the bottom....might be worth taking it right out and see what happens, but be ready to stick it back quick!!

Also puzzling that the ABS light comes on at >2000rpm...normally if its bollox its on all the time....I suggest you wait til you've replaced the faulty switch and see if anything improves. Its unusual for the problems you mention to be connected to the ignition, but then electricity is a funny thing!

Thanks for that, hope to get the switch fitted tomorrow.

I noticed today that when driving the abs light doesn't come on at all, but when stationary and revving over 2000rpm it flashes on !

I'll change the fuel filter at the weekend too, so it'll give me the opportunity to see how much crap is in the bottom, hence maybe why no fuel is coming out when I loosen the tap.

OK, changed switch and starting appears to be OK now and error code 18 was fuel quantity adjuster (whatever that is ?)

Changed the fuel filter as I couldn't get anything out of the drain plug. There were a few water bubbles, but not sure how much would affect the performance.

Cleared the errors and nothing showing up so far.

When it starts and revs the abs light flashes and goes out and stays out.

sounds like it might not have been changed for a while. can you bleed it from below now?

Havn't tried bleeding it yet. But when I took it apart there didn't appear to be any obstruction. I'll try bleeding it this evening.

Yes, primed at the top, still haven't checked the bleeding yet.

Also, which is odd, the ABS light flashing has gone. Could it all be related to the Ignition switch ?

well logic says not, but circumstantial evidence is clearly in favour! :)
