So if the 3L is on borrowed time, looking at replacement options.

We have decided next truck doesn't need to be a 7 seater.

Could be very late Terrano but much as loved them may be time for change.

All this chassis rot issue has put me off Pathfinders, shame as did seem
the evolution.

Had a Patrol, could have another and easier now have smaller car for urban,
but might be too big and whilst like simpleness maybe like few more features.

Shogun, guess always been in background since Terrano beat it as our choice
15 years ago, suppose almost Nissan these days. Plenty of toys and do like
as real transfer lever and handbrake, suppose bonus 7 seater too.

Grand Cherokee, likely the 05-10 WK version. Liking is capable 4x4, tons of
heritage but don't see many about. Merc motor looks good.

X5, stop laughing, more of them about than Jeep, lacks low box, but many have
hill decent control, traction control. Fast road SUV and to be fair where most of
our trucks have lived.

LandCruiser, either but imagine Colorado is most practical, seem to hold their
money.

Discovery, realistically D3/S3. Like boxy styling but beyond the rivalry green
oval has in other marques, dont know that much of them. Back in day T2 also
won over a S1 Disco.

Others, well I have always thought Freelander types too small for caravan, twin
axle, but plenty seem to manage them. Maybe are heavier and more powerful
than Terrano generation, suppose could factor in X Trail. Plan long term is going
bit smaller caravan too.

Open to any other ideas.

It’s a difficult decision, several years ago I decided it was time to down size and ended up with another Terrano the project truck and then original teuck got written off so bought the 3litre. We are now looking at this again but we are thinking about trading both terranos in and putting a lump of cash into buying a VW van to convert i to a camper. We don’t need as many seats as we did and a camper would allow us to go off easily and spend valuable time together as I possibly more than most don’t know about the future.
How about switching brands to such as Toyota Rav4 or Honda CRV, both reliable motors and probably a little better on fuel.

Kia Sportage or Hyundai Tucson ?

I like my Jeeps took me 3 months to find our WK but to be honest I live with the constant thought/fear that the inlet manifolds might crud up one day -they are an expensive fix. Its a great drive very similar to the ML now badged as a GL/E but Mercs are more expensive to buy than Grand Cherokee.

Our WJ seems mechanically simpler but ride is old fashioned & body shape is quite dated.

My brief experience with Hyundai was that they start to cost serious money once they are over 7 years old and out of warranty. See no reason why Kia should be any different.

Everyone tells me the Range Rovers / Discos can be a money pit - any air suspension versions are expensive to fix.

VW do the Tauran - VW always a well made product. I have a mate who bought a used one and he loves it. For us it would have to be the Touareg though for size. A Ford should be a good option Ranger / Kuga.

Had a Honda CRV some years back and honestly could not fault it, great car. When I bought my Patrol I puzzled for ages about Patrol or Land Cruiser, ended up with a Patrol which I enjoyed for 4 years but ended up getting rid of because it had no centre diff and bought a Land Cruiser 150. I liked my Patrol but I love my Land Cruiser, just a much better to live with nicer car all round. I know a lot of these cars are Marmite cars but for me Land Cruiser really was the way forward, had it 9 months now and it still brings a smile to my face, also performs great off road.

Kind regards

Russell.

TBH I don't see many Land Cruisers where we live so did not think of it as an option - tend to see more Shoguns. If they are anything like the build on our Mk1 MR2 they will be a sound option. The 150 variant what years are they from/to?

Looking at smaller SUVs, always thought weren't big enough for our caravan but maybe
as they've got bigger and more poke they could be.

Noted XTrail can give upto 170bhp and one of RAV4s is about the same.
Further some of the facelift Freelander2 with DS4 2.2 td are about 190bhp
typically mated with automatic. Couple of members in a caravan club pull
18 and 20 footers and latter is away with it to Italy. Noting much lower
insurance group and of course lower road tax band too.

Only thing that concerns me is this class have max tow weight around 2tonnes.
Bit of a drop from the Terrano's 3tonnes as 3L. Ok caravan about 1.7T but nice
to know plenty in reserve.

The 150 series runs from 2009 - onwards, however the previous 120 series tows just as well and that ran from 2003 - 2009

These are the smaller Land Cruisers rather than the 100 or 200 series.

Life after the Terrano...
Funny, was thinking about it lately and it's a tough choise.
Was thining about a Pathfinder, but if they do rust that's out of my head.

Other thoughts are a Land Cruiser or a Defender, but the Defender is a step backwards compared to the Terrano in daily use so that's not gonna be it.

Long story short, the Terrano will stay for a long time, because I'm not sure what to replace it with and that is a big compliment to the truck.

So this weekend I have mostly been looking at Jeep Grand Cherokees.

Went to see one locally yesterday but the dealer had loaned it out as
a courtesy car, which must say something about it.

Today been over the Pennines to Stockport to see one and we all are
impressed, decided for now not to buy it as too far away for any
follow up issues.

Big thanks to Ted too as we got word there was one in Derby but got snapped
up before could get to see it.

Looks similar suspension set up to Terrano other than is coils on front not
wish bones, but gains centre diff and electronic locking axle diffs.

Interior space more like a Patrol.

Hoping to get back to the local GC this week.

Don’t suggest Navara because chassis break in half :lol

Unless you manage to find a non spanish made one, they have strengthened chassis at that point I believe, Taiwanese I think. Or buy one that has been repaired by Nissan, or anybody I suppose! I'd be more worried about the engine, stick a Terrano lump in one and it'll be fine I reckon! Or buy an Isuzu Dmax :D

could look at crewcab. neighbour just got a 3.2 ranger and then added a cap for the bed.
super boot created, be ideal for caravanning, something he does too.

lower tax too as commercial. never really fell for navara, do like the vw amorak which
looks massive, sure must be bigger than usual trucks.

only issue would be in my price band finding one not trashed as a working truck.

hmm got me thinking...

There is a smaller engine for ranger, 2.2 I think, I know a guy who has one, says its fine, plus coil springs on back better for heavy weights, or caravan lol

like the 3.2 though, think makes 200bhp from 5 pot.

believe they are being fitted in pairs to ex underground
rail stock to use on non electrified rail lines so somebody
has faith in the engine.

I like the look of the new Jimny bit anal for lots of uses but ok for lane fun I'm sure

Wife's daily driver is a 2014 Freelander 2 Metropolis, we got it 18 months ago with 16,500 miles on it. I've put General Grabber AT3s on it and it's an impressive drive both on motorways and offroad. Don't tow with it but see plenty who do.

Definitely worth a look :thumb2

I saw one at p&p site last weekend, they stuck to the easier stuff (still pretty rough) and gad road tyres and they said it was great! They look great to
