Joking apart I heard about this guy getting crushed instantly to death by a 1 ton compressor he had in the back of a hilux after hard braking to avoid an obstacle
I saw something very much like this happen in Dudley a couple of months ago (by the Pegasus island) the load, looked like sacks shrink wrapped on pallets had gone straight through the front of the trailer and crushed the cab! Didn't help that the fork lift truck on the back had fallen off! caused some pretty long queues!! :doh
sobering, as you think when in a car you are going to come off worse
with a truck. but seen more truck drivers crushed between their load
and someone elses.
like modern buses the cabs seem to be built of balsa wood and thats
the good ones.

if the container was loaded correctly IE the load placed up against the front bulkhead, AND the container loaded onto the truck with the door at the rear, this would never have happened, looks to me like the load was correct but container on the truck wrong so load has sliding space to gather momentum before hitting doors which could not possibly take the force, so driver error, I would never have accepted a container with doors forward, Rick
Its the same as two vehicle traveling towards each other at 50pmh, people think the impact would then be an impact of 100mph, 50mph + 50mph = 100mph, when in fact its still an impact of 50mph.
I know what your saying, but tests have proven it makes no differance. Its the same force that is pushing on the door even if it slides into it.
The kinetic energy would still = the same. If you tip the container on end loaded then it will hold, if you shook it (I know this sounds daft) then the kinetic energy would then be increased and it would bust through. However the energy is already in the load as the vehicle is traveling at 56mph to begin with, the shake if you will.
It sounds wrong and i also argued the point till it was proven to me.
I believe it was conducted by MIRA although i stand to be corrected, it was a couple of years ago i did this work.
