My 'new' Terrano only came with one red chipped key, I have read I can get another chipped key from a decent key smiths but how do I find out what Mhz fob to get?
Cheers,
Jon.

it should tell you on a box in the dash i believe , but someone wiser than me ( everyone ) will be along shortly :thumb2

or it should be on the fob, i think there is also a small label inside.

I think when you take it in to cut they can put it in a "reader" and it will tell them the chipset.... may be wrong, and I don't think they come cheap either..

Thanks guys but maybe I did not make it cear. I did not get a fob with the truck and only got one key which has a small red square on the edge. What I would like to do is get another coded key cut and a fob so I can open/close remotely. The fob isnt essential but would be nice, I do want another key though incase I lose this one.

that has to be as they can then duplicate it, but it will have a different ID so will need sync it with the car, all in the downloads, Rick

just seen the bit about the fob, generally if it is MK 1 Square HL model then no cannot use a fob but round HL jobbie does, if you want to know the frequency then you then you need to see the label on the immobiliser behind the centre dash, Rick

I had the same problem. I bought mine from a dealer so wrote a letter to the previous owner and he had it sitting in a draw with a flat battery!! Result.

Thanks guys, at least I know how to find which on I need, can someone show a picture or a link to a ebay add for the correct one, Ive had a look and there seems to be a few different shapes, am I correct in thinking that I can use a micra etc one?

as long as it is Nissan and the correct frequency shape does not matter, Rick

Thanks Rick, theres a few on ebay including some built into the key :thumb2

By the way, I had a go at banger racing years ago at the old Speedworth stadium in Cleethorpes.

the ones built into the key will not be a lot of use as the key will not fit.

I used to race at Dover, Arena Essex & Smallfields, only did it for two years and started when I was 62 hence my race number 62, came 2nd in the rookie banger final 2010 so did not do bad, but then we had problems with Swifty the guy building the bangers in my yard so it all went pear shaped so started off roading instead, Rick

No problem, I will go for the fobs on there own then.
I only did it twice, I bought a fiat 500 (old one not the new version) which I thought would be a laugh (I was only 18) but it fell in half backing it off the trailor, I swapped it for a Marina (the guy wanted the fiat engine for a gokart) which I did one meeting in, it wasnt in a fit state for another meeting, then I got an old P6 2000TC Rover which I managed to post myself :doh
That was the end of my banger racing, I have done a bit of RTV'ing and managed to roll my series2 Lightweight :doh
I then got into motorbike racing which I was more succesfull at for the 9 years I was doing it, happy days :D
