Mine is rubbish!
Terrano 2.7TD
It takes ages to warm up, if it does at all.
Is my thermostat stuck open, missing or just goosed?
Or is it just the time of year and I need a sheet of card in front of the rad?

been making toast with mine today

mine gets very warm have to turn it down alot

recently fitted a new stat and flushed the cooling system as mine seemed to take an age to warm up.
loads better now takes about 10 mins to defrost the windscreen and its been realy cold the last few days.

The Td is overcooled, since I flushed out the cooling system and put in new anti-freeze, my heater does seem better.
When it gets cold I do have a plywood panel, painted matt black that fits behind the grill and fixes via an M6 bolt into the vertical support in front of the radiator. It helps the engine get warmer quicker for demisting etc.

Might put it on tomorrow takes 5 minutes. It has done 10 winters now.:thumb2

ours is sound since stat change but ours doesn,t seem cold when we first get in no matter how cold its been(inside the mis)not the heater:rolleyes:

Wax thermostats fail closed not open, you might have the wrong temperature stat, card in front of rad is only a con to the engine, if the stat is working as it should then the engine should reach working temperature as well as supplying the heater without the need to bring the rad in to dissipate excess heat, I have 2 2.4 petrols and today I started them both together and within 10 mins the screens were clear of heavy frost, and heaters blowing very warm air, I also have a xantia diesel started at the same time and same story, whole car defrosted in less than ten mins, if I am in a hurry and drive staight away with the xantia by the time I hit the main road, 400 yards away, the heater is starting to blow warm air, and the screen is clear, Rick

mines pretty slow. takes approx 10/15 mins to warm up, and by that time im usually not far from work. It does however, get very warm.

What year is yours? is it TD or TDI with AC? if it's got AC replace the pollen filter as per the download.

Mine has allways been poor, replaced my stat last year with an 88 degree version, the standard is 82 degrees. Since then I too have to turn mine down after a while. Not sure I'd like the 88 degree towing in the middle of summer though. Think it's Toolbox that fitted an 88 degree years ago and hasn't had a problem.

HEATER---WHAT i DO IS...

I have the same thing fitted to mine, infact its been on all year since oct 09, yes, all through the summer, and towing caravans weighing up to 2.25 tonnes up around the Peak District and my temp gauge has never been above half way, it normally sits about 4mm up from the bottom, seems to make no difference at all as regards to restricting cool air in the summer ( have checked), antifreeze mix is 37% as checked with my new antifreeze tester from Machine Mart all for the pricely sum of £4.10, oh and the heater well its ok, screen defrosts in about 8 mins BUT I do start it up and leave at tickover for abt 2 mins then adjust the handthrottle so it sits at abt 900 rpm , have a cuppa and the things ready to go, and its cleared the screen and its nice and toasty inside, just remember to drop the handthrottle back in before starting off, :thumbs :thumbs :thumbs

Would recommend an antifreeze tester for checking your coolant is the best fiver you will spend...well £4.10 you can spend

What's the phrase..... All the gear and no idea...:nenau

Well my wife last night helped to jump start a friends car from her Picasso.
She knew I would have put jump leads in the car, she found them.

It just so happend on that morning I showed her where to connect jump leads as the battery is not under the bonnet.
But there is a jump connection there and a ground point.
So she had the gear and the idea this time :clap:clap

So where do I get an 88 degree stat then?
The only time it has ever been above the halfway mark on the dial was thrashing it up a hill, in the summer with 5 adults on board. Usually it barely moves past the first notch.
Fan isn't on all the time.

Local motor spares shop got me both the 82 and 88 at the same time. Currently the 82 is sat in my garage. Might just be that either you don't have a stat fitted or the standard is buggered.

If the rad is getting warm too soon, there could be crud jamming it open.
Often get this on the outboard engine, whip it out and clean it up and back in, job sorted.
Happens on a hot day when running the engine hard and the stat is more open than normal, so can get easily jammed. Fresh water cooling raw river water goes in, so there is also scale and aluminium crud.
