What is the problem (with the truck not the girlfriend)? If there was fault codes stored in the ecu would a light not show up on the dash or would there not be a flashing light on the ecu?

Think its under the back part of the centre console on mine. See the thread "Ok-who's hidden it ????" as various other options are given there such as under the carpet in the front footwell in 99 model.

that sounds ominously like a textbook description of a spit roast

You don't seriously think I could keep a straight face looking Colin in the eye do you?????:lol:lol:lol

Your fault sounds common and the ECU is not a normal point of failure (unless your name is Darwin and you deliberately fry it)...what colour is the smoke - it makes a big difference to the diagnosis.....

hi.. if i take all the interior out of the car i should find the ecu!!!i will have a l@@K at ware you have said;) may as well had the rest off the truck in bits may as well do the inside too:( i may find some thing interesting:eek: the smoke is blue!!! unburnt fuel it stinks off:confused:

there are good problem solving in the downloads on this site but i had a look at autodata and found this it might or might not.

Problem:
Light throttle hesitation at 1800-2500 rpm during engine warm up period. Jerking, full throttle acceleration at 2300-3000 rpm after cold start.

Remedy:
Replace ECM.
Inspect green/yellow wire of mass air flow (MAF) sensor for resistor. If fitted remove resistor. Solder wires together and insulate.
Check injector needle lift sensor wire position. Ensure wiring is as original and has not been switched.
If wiring has been switched, return to original connections.

All models, 1997 MY (VIN 302279)

parts No:
Description ECM

Part number 23710-7F403

hi.. ecm whats that im thick:doh it sound similar to the post you put up.. mine dose it all the time even when i have taken it down the motorway at a ton:naughty it only seems to have done it since it was getting colder...never noticed it in the summer!!!! may be i should put a hotwater bottle under the bonnet to keep her warm:eek: the weather may have something to do with the problem? but surely it never came out the factory like it:confused:

just another thought!!! the truck never had a problem befor i replaced the air filter the old 1 was like a old hover bag!!!! its not a genuine nissan air filter i replaced it with ...never thought much too it when i took it out the box cheap sh.t hmm,you think be worth trying a genuine nissan air filter?

well its a cheap and cheerful thing to try - lots of problems arising from non-OEM air, fuel and oil filters.......in fact spend a few quid on a K&N filter, they are a bit more free-flowing and will last 1,000,000 miles (seriously), so you never buy another. You can spend £50-odd on a full induction kit (that replaces the existing airbox) and gives you an extra couple of mpg to boot, or just go for the one that replaces the standard airbox filter, which will be cheaper.

A tad more than the Nissan filter but better value for money....and it does sound like too much fuel and not enough air, could be a number of things but why not start at the beginning of the loop?

I'd deffo treat yourself to a genuine Nissan Air Filter... I had a PartCo £6 jobbie put in my old T2.... it buggered about 3 MAF's! :doh
That was a MK3 in blue too!!!!!

Might explain why I've never had a MAF problem in getting on for 300k miles across my three trucks.......
