I really know nothing about this subject other than a year or so ago I bought my current off road motor from a member on here and it had more than half a tank of whatever he put init, it smelled like a chip shop, was slow to start and would not pull the skin of a rice pudding, gradually I introduced red derv and it slowly became better at starting and had more power, (if I burn 10 ltrs at a meet it will be a lot) so it took time to thin it down so I just have to question the whole theory of burning this stuff if you get less performance, admittedly I feed my old Lister gen sets with whatever I can get which includes old engine oil (left to stand for months then filtered and then thinned to derv consistency (with a viscosity cup) and have no problems but these engines are low tech in comparison, and I do not need a performance related output, they just charge batteries or run my welder, Rick

shop brought vo in local shops is generaly more expencive than diesel.
in fact me trucks got fuel in but I had to have friggin oven chips as I couldn't afford the 3 litres of cooking oil. 4.50 for me fryer.!

Have you noticed every time fuel prices go up so does the veggie oil to cook your chips but never seems to drop:doh I'm starting to wonder what chips would taste like cooked in diesel hmm wonder if it would lubricate my pumps:lol:lol:lol

TBH I just run diesel as I don't do many miles so not going to make huge savings & being on such a low income can't really risk killing the pump:doh I have tried veg before but could tell a drop in performance which I didn't like but I drove that T2 very hard:augie

short answer is.
don't bother with svo.
its just a farce to save a few pence. and may cost you a lot more in the long run.
with knackerd fuel pumps. shit cold starting and all the wading through info on correct ratios.:nenau

Im not going join a cash and carry just to buy oil.and make special journeys to fetch it.

I will stick with me 1.33 per litre diesel taa!

I must object (personally) :lol

I have not noticed any performance change atall or even had to change my filter. I've done about 2000 miles so far and can't really fault her, and luckily for me i have a quality food 10 mins down the road :clap so it all works out well

A figure that might make it look more appealing

A full tank of diesel 80l @1.46 for the good stuff = 116.80

A full tank of diesel 80l @1.35 for the cheaper stuff = 108.00

A full tank of veg 80l @0.79. = 63.96

This is what appeals to me :thumb2

no differnce in performance either the savings speak for them selves all this doom about your pump going bang are a bit ott if your running svo clean new stuff then no problems if your running wvo and its not cleaned and dried then you could get a problem with it.

i recently resealed my pump while it was still on the car the leaky pump seals was nothing todo with the type of fuel im running just age related.

even if my pump went pop im confident i could rebuild it after stripping down an old pump before playing with mine.

a simple diesel engine can run on almost any heavy oil

i must admit, i save quite a bit using veg oil, the cash and carry(costco) is literally 1 mile from my place of work so no special trips and in all the cars i have run veg oil in i have had no issues or significant starting/running issues. :thumb2
