Hot Box!!

Just done a trip to Devon in my Terrano 250ish miles and noticed at the end of the trip that the gearstick was quite hot to the touch and also noticed a gear oil smell... is this normal?
ive had the T2 up on ramps and theres no sign of fluid loss on the box and it still feels quite smooth.

Any info would be appreciated:nenau

Probably low on oil, did you check it while it was ramped?
Smell will be from the top of the box where the selector rubber will have left the building
I found mine was goosed when I parked the truck on it's side one day :augie

No. i didnt check the level. im planning on draining and refilling it. what oil is recommended for the gearbox

Terrano gear oil- GL4 75-90

Gear and transfer system take 5 litres

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES PUT GL5 IN!!!!!! :nono :nono it completely destroys the box in the long run

while im here i could do with some info about the brakes or steeering. when i brake hard or at speed the car pulls sharply to the right
its all polybushed at the front and ive just changed the drop links on the roll bars.
could it be seized calliper or knackered shock absorber or am i way off the mark:nenau

Could be dead shock but more likely a sticking caliper slider :thumbs

do the caliper sliders need a bit of grease or should they be dry

Grease :thumbs but once stuck they need stripping and cleaning and then regrease etc. Check the rubber gaiter is in place and not perished
