As you will see from a previous post, I have had a long turm problem with the tick over droping too low (about 700-800rpm) and have had no joy in fixing this .
Today after a 120 mile run , I stoped at the light in my village and when I tryed to set off again nothing Happened, I press the accelorator and it just keeps ticking over,Slow! No engin light, Tryed all sorts but No Luck, It is now at the side of the road awaiting recovory, Any Ideas

Does your have a cable driven or an electronic accelerator?

might sound daft but is your radio working.... as it is on the same circuit as some of the electronics, i had the same problem and found it was the ignition at fault, would start but would not rev, have not fixed mine yet but have found the nack to start it, mine starts by turning key on fully as you would normal then release backwarks slightly....mines starts on the the return of key, worth a try, good luck

I've also seen this before on mine!!!!! It was when I had my funny sticky ignition problem, as soon as I cleaned up the terminal and sprayed some WD40 into the barrel it was fine since

Checking the radio isn't a bad idea because it is on the same circuit nice call Kwondo

it could be the sensor on the throttle pedal.might be knackered or could just be clagged up with fluff and dust.

Ok! I have now got the T2 back from the garage, they didnt seem interested in considering any thing except the injecta pump (3000€ to replace it). but i am not convinced.
Has any one got any ideas as to were to start and what route to take to identify what exactley the problem is.

Check the fault codes ! If u can't go to Nissan, they will check them and charge u about £30

Then, report back

if Nissan want 3k for a pump then they will want more than £30 to check the codes, do it yourself for nothing, it is in the downloads,Rick

£3000 k=1000 :) what is the value of euros in sterling, i think its about £2550. still seem very expensive.
any way like Rick said use the codes, and have you checked the ignition switch yet and the throttle sensor

well, id be almost certain its the pedal. Mine did it once for a short time until it totally failed-got a new pedal from MakeItFit thankfully, swapped it over all ok. I used my diagnostics software to monitor this, and I could see the switch working, but not the position-so like you it would detect the pedal was on, but throw a MIL because it couldn't see the position and thus kept the car at idle.

check the codes-its just the cost of a paperclip, and go from there. personally, id be looking at the pedal WAY before the pump.

how did you get it back? driven?

pedal.

My y reg Terrano ticked over at 800 i never considered it a fault. what should it be? My d22 ticks over at 800 also.

Update! So, first answers to questions.
It is a fly by wire accelerator, The radio works fine, It is not derivable it was doped of by the recovery truck .
I have tried the the WD40 and knackleing with the ignition ,no luck
Removed the accelerator and cleaned all the connections and switch, no luck
Cannot check codes as garage let the batter run completely flat and thus i assume erased any fault codes stored !
Sorry, my fault It was ticking over at about 500rpm not 800, that is the correct speed you are right.

I have now bought a 2000,LWB SE+(very nice) But still want to get the 97 swb back on the road for work use ,so any help very much appreciated.

If you can get it started then all the fault codes will come back, so use the paper clip to get them, but battery flat will not erase them anyway, Rick

Just check your brake lights are not on, brake lights ON = engine to tick-over on most drive by wire systems.

Doesn't affect my Td Mav, but I'm storing that little Gem at the back of my mind for other cars, and will probably be the same for the Picasso.

It only needs to be a faulty brake light switch.:nenau

Thanks edgerton, it's not every day now that I learn something new, as I thought I knew it all anyway...:thumbs:lol:lol

best regards,

Rustic

There are actually two switches on the brake pedal:

BRAKE SWITCH
The ECM receives signals from two brake switches. One is a conventional brake lamp switch, the other is referred to as a redundant brake switch 2.

See EC-401 for the diagram.
