bought three weeks ago, changed clutch master cylinder next day:( and supposidly had new one month earlier with slave cylinder. clutch still not right but working. bigger problems below

hi, have been on another fourwheel drive forum for years, will pay for membership when the army decide to pay me this month.

have changed locking wheel hubs, the outer bits with the six allen bolts.

drivers was rusty outer and was locked in, after driving home in 2wd and reversing to park in car park so shouldn't have been locked. original passenger side was '' missing '' the locking ring. this has been replaced the day before.

so current changes, added two outer locking hub units from a matched set from scrap yard vehicle looking in good shape. same axle for same axle.

still no 4wd. jacked all wheels up today and run first gear. front prop locks into place and passenger side drive shaft turns, NOT driver side.

when on ground if i turn the drivers drive shaft the passenger turns in opposite direction, and vice versa turn passenger drive shaft with wheels on ground and drivers turns in opposite direction.

they only turn slightly though and go tight/stiff.

is the diff considered to be working correctly if the drive shafts both move when one is turned? suggests to me that the diff is working, so.......

it has to be one or both hubs right??

please help.:doh:doh:doh:doh:doh:doh

meant to say, the locking hub was locked in place, wasn't hard to get off but when it did come off the locking ring was stuck in place and gentle prizing got it out easily.

Hi welcome to the best club for all things 4x4 Nissan.:thumb2 ohh and Maverick of course...

We could fix all your problems in one paragraph..
but we don't want to do that...:lol

Front diff sounds fine.
If you rotate front prop shaft as it leaves the transfer box, ( set to two wheel drive) one drive shaft will lock, then the other, the one that still rotates is the faulty front auto hub.

We have breakers on here that have good spares too.

Clutch problem is either the flexi is ballooning, or the damper pipe that runs to over the rear axle is leaking.

All problems sorted... next challenge please...
Edit...
read, written, with answer within 7 minutes..
Apologies for the long delay lol...

Best regards,
Rustic

welcome. ive see you before lol

well worth it believe me.

Im convinced itll be them auto lockers giving grief, got sick of mine and stuck manual lockers on.

What ever you do dont run 4wd on a hard surface, the wheels need to slip to release any wind up.

Ps welcome aboard:thumb2

thanks guys. was sure diff was fine. will see if i can change both complete hub units and see what happens.

ZIPPYYYYYYYYYY. alright bud. see your name earlier. thought i knew it lol.

jim, not me first rodeo bud, just bought a dodgy truck which appeared to be what it was meant to be, just not quite it seems lol.

ref clutch, the garage i took it too hadn't seen the pipe to rear before and he cut it short near front and shut it off?? but was leaking at back bleed nipple.

well been under the truck, felt like a lie down in the car park lol

have turned prop by transfer box by hand and in both directions, drivers side turns a little and stops, in both directions and passenger side just goes round and round for as long as i can be bothered to keep turning it in both directions.

job done me thinks. cheers chaps:clap

wish i knew that before jacking it up a couple of times this morning getting all four wheels up in air :nenau:nenau

yep near side auto hub not working, easy when you know how init, Rick

got replacement hub

right, should i use the outer bearing in my hub or one with replacement hub? will need to do the discs soon, wish i had them first lol.

should i pack copper grease in the outer locking hubs when replacing and do other one to make sure as its been off recently.?

and should i get new outer bearings when doing brake discs/pads?

hopefully my next post will be one of great elation having 4x4 back?
