Ah...right...any suggestions anyone??

Budget is max £5k, need to get dog, child seat and pushchair in, something I can work on and not have to take it to a stealers to find out a simple fault and parts are cheap, and won't cost an arm and a leg to run, oh and will take biodiesel or veggy oil....fussy??

you wouldn't be buying a Maverick for £5k and certainly not a Mistral. well not unless you're an eejyit!

£5k puts you in 2003-5 territory and a final facelift T2 2.7 or 3.0.

Eminox have a goode look around and you'll see that the Terrano is the most cost-effective 4x4 you can buy pretty much. Your £5k would buy you a good lowish mileage 2003-4 2.7 TDi that does 23-25mpg but defo runs on anything up to 100% SVO, or a 3.0 that we are not yet sure about but does 32mpg anyway.

Same money buys you LRs, Discos, Shotgun, Mitsis etc that are much older and a bag of shite....

the site I mentiond earlyer will help

SVO is NOT biodiesel.. its veggie oil... not the same...

but you can use 2500 litres with out paying duty, just need to keep a record.. oh its a ROLLING year as well..

but 2500 litres is 580 litres a month.. so WAY more then normal use..

No, I think you'll find it's 508 litres a month:augie
Still plenty though eh:D

i think you will find that 2500 divided by 12 is 208

Right, been informed that the 3.0 model will only run on 50:50 bio:diesel mix at the most, no veggy at all, but seeing as it does more mpg than the 2.7 then it all probably evens out cost wise I would have thought.

Still gonna have a look at it when it comes in, nothing ventured, nothing gained!

BioDiesel can be made at home from veggie oil, load of messing about, maybe worth looking at a later 2.7, slow note the ROAD TAX..

I thought being a 2002 model, the tax would be around the £245 mark, or has salesman told me wrong??

Anything will do really, so long as it's comfortable, reliable, fairly cheap to run and won't break the bank!

The more I look the more things don't seem that simple after all!

no thats correct, its 2005/6 or thereabouts that the higher VED rate kicks in.

My 2005 2.7 is £245 for twelve months, or £138 (?) for six months.

check parkers guide for ved link, can go on every model/trim variation
against MY.

thats way i bought the x reg trol, not a y or later, as was up in air still
what might become of bands.

Yep, checked Parkers and it's £245/annum from April 2010, which is what the Vectra has increased to anyway, so both seem to linked road tax wise...better than £400 odd for the newer vehicles

One other thing that I've come accross, is the 3.0 a straight 4 cyl engine or a V6? From what I've read etc it's a straight 4, but still wonder.

Cheers

i cant see the problem . buy a 02-04 plate 2.7 for around 3.5k . and put the change in the bank . then run it on veg oil all the time.
cant see the problem myself ... trouble free motoring and running on next to nothing.

or get the 3 litre mot it clean it up ... sell it .... then do as instructed above
