mine is a swb manual.i have no idea about what fuel pump or anything yet as i dont have a manual.i need to get as many mpg as possible to make it keepable as we only have it because my wife has bone problems and needs a higher car.
so can anyone tell me about this veggie oil thing please or where to find info please

regardless of ya pump u should be able to run on at least 50% veg oil 50% derv even better fins a biodeisel seller that stuff works no matter what

id be expecting no more than 33 tops on a long run, round town it will drop. These are heavy cars and old engines but for the money/age etc, they are no better or worse than any other 4x4 in my opinion, certainly better than Fronteras thats for sure! I wouldnt let it put you off though, its very hard to find better these days unless you buy a small diesel car or something.

as Peter says, ticking sound may well be the fan perhaps, but get the bearing checked anyway, but also consider a stone stuck in the tyres, happens to me all the time-gravel driveway!

ideal thanks.

just checked wheel bearings ad the back are ok but the front two have some play in i would say a few mill.
is it normal to have some play in the front two with the free wheeling hubs?

Asda pure veggie oil , rape seed oil £2.94 for three litres on roll back. Mix no more than 50/50

with diesel this time of year. I get 30/31 mpg on long runs, 26/28 around town and 24mpg

towing my caravan. regards bri

your a star thanks mate.
i have removed the wheel and free wheeling thing which leaves a metal shaft with lined grooves in.this is moving quite a bit.i am not sure now if it is a bearing.what does everyone else think...please help

all ok i think i tightened bearings and there is nolonger play in the wheels.

i took it apart as the instructions said and the bearing adjuting nut was so loose i could turn it with my fingers.

Thanks ever so much

cant tell you all how gratfull i am to you all.your all very helpfull and understanding.
i am putting it in for an mot tommorrow just to see if its as good as it looks, the only problem i can see is there is a small rubber thing on a joint thats split i think its a tie rod end.It has a castle nut either end, threaded each end with a long solid nut like shaft thing.

if it is a tie rod or drop link, then its cheap to fix, so I wouldnt worry too much about that. good luck with MOT!
