Well that's bad news , sump is pressurising big time , so could it be rings , valves or guides?
Did you try putting your thumb over the pipe from the rocker cover btw ?

I tried, but it is not so easy to get a seal, as the hole was too big for my thumb.

Seems more pressure at the top of the engine, than at the bottom.

Just a thought, it could possibly be your head gasket
Failure between cylinder and pushrods maybe ?
Get some checks done, comp tester will give you a gauge between cylinders. After that poor some oil down the bore and repeat, if you get better figures it's the rings probably. No change valves or head gasket. Get a gas test done too , good luck

Joy... cheers...

what is a gas test?, like they do at an MOT? It has only just had an MOT, and all the emission were fine for it to have passed that.

I have a compression tester, do I use the glow plugs, or do I have to take out the injectors to connect it up?

Pipe's same size I thought , but if you've put your thumb on the exit of the oil seperator where you dissconnected the top hose, that means you've got pressure from the sump UP through the seperator.

I think they test the water for gas in it, garage that is ;)

Comp test in either, just use the right adapter and disarm the fuel pump or it'll start up

so i shouldn't have done this then?

I like that idea

To be honest, if I have water up that far, my wife will make sure that getting water in the filter will be the least of my worries,

It's the air intake I was on about . As long as that's properly sealed off then fine. That little filter on the oil breather thing will eventually spit oil out if the filter is knackered, but if not then it's fine :thumbs
