Hi I have a 'T' plate 99 Terrano Extreme 2,its looking like the rattling around the front of my engine is the timing chain that needs replacing :(,the job is probably too big for me to tackle so my boss at work is going to do it.The question is...which engine model number is it I should order parts for please?....its a little confusing!!!....any tips or advice would be very gratefully received...many thanks!!!

Dont know about engine codes but are you sure it's not just the chain tensioner ? I'm also assuming yours is petrol.

I did think about just the tensioner tbh,yeh its the petrol one. This is why I joined the site...wondered if the chains were prone to stretching etc?...as if not then maybe its a cheapy fix!!....its getting worse day by day.

Search for manuals member briggie

Should pop up one for you

Just typed my reg into that site, and yes its coming up with the R20/R20P...so parts must be the same...many thanks :clap

Update!!!!!

So today I take the rocker cover off....to find a huge piece of black plastic!!...I believe this is part of the surface of one of the chain tensioners.....so my question is...can I just change these?....or the chain want doing too?...TBH it looks like its already been done, but whoever did it didnt change the tensioners.(im saying it looks ok as there is very little slack in the chain)

I think the rattling therefore is the chain running on the metal of one of the tensioners?

Just seen this thread, OK timing chain and tensioners are an issue on these, source the parts from Nissan and they will cost a fortune, hundreds of £s, I have found a US supplier but lost the details at the mo, but I have put it on here before, so if you search my threads you will find it but price is good cost more on shipping than parts cost and include a new water pump, total cost including import duty still less than just the chain will cost from stealers, Rick
