Think you answered this yourself in 1st post you said you fed it diesel and it revved normally with no smoke.

This still leaves a few options open though. I think a bit of trial and error is needed. Tackle em one by one and see if there is difference :thumb2

Yeah but that was straight from a Jerry can, thus bypassing, filter, filter head and primer, fuel lines, fuel cap fuel tank and fuel in the tank, still a lot to rule out there :(

I'm about to get the train back to the girlfriends house with the aim of at least getting it home later on.

I plan on giving the fuel cap and fuel filter head and primer a diesel bath for a few hours to clear any blockage if one is present, if that doesn't work I'll be running it from a 5 litre jerry can in the engine bay with a length of pipe from the feed to the engine and a length of pipe from the IP as a leak off back into the jerry can as well, carrying enough fuel to get me home in the boot

James has also mentioned that it might be worth using a compressor and gun with a length of pipe and blasting the fuel lines to ensure they aren't blocked, I know there's no holes in them as the primer is sucked down when the engine is running indicating a vacuum in the fuel system

I pray that this is an easy fix :bow

i had this when i first had my 1996 2.7td on aa 500 mile trip wth only 80 to go called the aa out who said the turbo was gone white smoke and i did what you did changed filter at side of the road and when we restarted her she would not get enough speed to pull out in to traffic so i was relayed home only to find out the mini filter was blocked which was how i became a member of this forum because of the great help i recieved worth a check ,rob:thumb2

I know it's not my mini filter as I don't have one I've checked :thumbs

I've also ran using diesel from a can and it was lovely jubbly for that few mins lol

Take the pipes off at the tank end if you plan on blowing them through, else you will put the crap back into the tank:eek:

Very good point there!!!! I presume this should be done at the inspection hatch side?

To get it home, rig up a can of diesel direct again and drive it home like that,at least you can work on it at your place. Plus it will give the old girl a treat, being run on proper fuel :augie

You may be lucky and find the crap in the fixed pipe on the tank, start there,
Take the feed pipe off both ends and see if you can blow toward the engine,

Blinkin tractor engines...

Petrol, Spark and away ya go... :augie

Does sound like what I had and when I took top plate off top of fuel tank the pickup pipe was almost blocked only allowing enough fuel to pass to idle:thumbs

Would these be worth cleaning to restore a bit of performance :nenau

On the way home now :) going to do a bit of diags before bed, taking the fuel cap and filter head off and leaving overnight in a diesel bath, then I'll have to remove all the plywood tomorrow and get to the inspection hatch and blast the pipes out

Were you running veg? How did you clean it? Did you remove the sender unit?

Be quicker & easier to drop the tank ;)

I was running so but the inside of the tank was v dirty so I took the sender unit out took apart swirl chamber where if u r running wvo u will c why it could easily block as not very big gap to suck up the wvo just be careful of the small screws holding top plate on the fuel tank as they can rust good luck

That's a point are you using wvo or svo? :nenau

If it's waste veggie I could see it blocking up pherhaps.

All fixed :thumb2

Got home and decided I wasn't going to let this beat me!!!!

Diesel soaked the fuel cap and fuel filter head which made no difference, then I had a plan :sly

I had a sneaky suspicion that there was def something stuck in my fuel lines so I decided to try a little trick and wasn't even sure if it was going to work or not

I switched round the send and return pipes on the filter and started pumping sending pressure the wrong direction in each pipe, I did this for a few mins and switched back and primed again and voila!!!!!!

3 or 4 little bits of what looked like plastic floated down the tube in my veg  and into the fuel filter, sending the pressure the wrong way seems to have dislodged what was in there!!! I removed the fuel filter again, emptied the contents into a container and out floated the bits of plastic.

Fitted everything back on again and the car now runs like an absolute train again :clap

Thanks for all the help guys, I couldn't have done it without you

Now to get these bloody window boards made and fitted :doh
