I did post my question on another thread but really need clarification now on what any members would do to get a new key and fob -

1. So I have a complete set and photos have been put on here. (See thread 'how many keys???' from electrip )
2. I am taking it that I first of all get a new key through a main Ford Dealer?

3. Next I have contacted the link that Iceman gets his fobs from on E-Bay asking if he has anything.
He is in fact advertising one but the numbers above the 418 MHZ is different and I think Iceman asked what difference this makes. Not sure a reply came.

4. Getting Fob programmed - I did say a Ford dealer said it would cost £98 labour. Sure I need to shop around on that!!!

Thanks for any help.

4A. you can re prog the fobs your self, take's 5 min,
Thanks for any help.

Hope it helps, have you lost the kay and fob?

i think its in the downloads... seen it some place on here any way

Thanks.

No - I haven't lost they key and fob. I just feel it is wise to get another set and needed to know how you all go about it.

So all you members would -

1. Order a key from Ford.
2. Look out for the fob on e-bay to re-programme myself.

Is that correct?

Could not edit my last post when I had this after thought!

Do you think E-bay Item 320412037132 would work for me. Problem is the numbers 5WK4 782 is different - I have 5wk 718.

No that fob wont work.

Has your Ign. key got a chip in it (NATS)?

If it is a chipped key a good high street key cutting service should be able to copy the code from your key and cut a new key with a chip in and program the key so the imobilizer works.

Yes - my ignition key is as photo with a red inset on the top in one corner.

Are you actually saying a High Street key cutter would actually have a blank with a red inset/chip and can do all this?

If so why do Ford say they are in Wiltshire but have to send it off to a key cutting service in Manchester?

Thanks for helping.

yes dave i broke my only key and the local locksmith cut another from the badly damaged key and set the chip code in minutes all for £20, i would just hang around ebay and enter just 718 into search tab every so often.

i have emailed a key fob seller your fob details and asked him if he comes across one will he give me a shout.

i maybe wrong but you can buy the fob from the nissan/maverick dealers and just use the works pdf file here to programme it, don't let them FOB you off with programming it for you as this is bloody expensive for a few turns of a key and a click of the fob.

my fob doesnt say anything on it.. how would i know what i should be buying?

thanks in advance
larson

Thanks so much Iceman I really feel I am on the case now. Also thanks for getting in touch with someone on e-bay.

I do not want to get FOBBED OF and without your help I could only go by gut feeling that there must be an easier way around this. Problem is not understanding this new tech stuff!

I have seen an SOS locksmith based about 20 miles away they advertise program keys for cars, etc. So will phone tomorrow and ask what he would charge if I came down to him.

By the way what does e.g. 5wk 718 stands for? Would be nice to know what these numbers mean.

Anyway you say type in 718 into e-bay search then I guess I am looking for 418 mhz.

Regards Dave

Not all key cutters - but a proper locksmith will be able to do it at less cost. Sometimes blank keys come up in ebay - a good locksmith would be able to programme the key.

The programming for the remote is easy peasy and would not need anyone to do it - the download is straight forward.

Iceman - progress thanks to your help!!!

I have just got back and am now the proud owner of a new programmed key that cost in total £27.00. They are on a trading estate about 15 miles from me and very helpful.

I also phoned another locksmith and he quoted me £75. So what with Ford's price you have heped me save my membership sub!

Now will be going for the remote off e-bay but on thinking about it will probably leave it for now as we will be away for a week or two. I do not want something arriving and if there are any issues I would prefer to deal with it straight away.

It is such a relief to have a spare key that works and drove back using it with a big grin over my face!

today i was getting garage keys cut and i decided to buy a key cut with a chip holder for £4 and took the old chip out of my old one and placed it into the new key.
