Hi everyone I have just bought a 04 Navara which had a D27ti engine installed by a garage in Welshpool, and I need help and advice and even to meet up with someone to give the truck a once over to reassure myself that I haven't made a big mistake.

1/ there seems to be a lot of electrical blocks from the wiring loom unattached and the risk of a shorting out from water could happen so I need to waterproof these. How??? :nenau

2/ The oil filter is very close to the engine mount and the ones I have been offered by the car shops for a D27 seems to wide to fit with the available space. IE between the mount and the side of the oil filter. Im taking this off today and physically taking it to my local parts shop to get the same one, but this one seams too slim compared to the oil filters for a D27 engine.

3/ I have a slight leak from the rear diff, is this something to worry about at this stage. :nenau

So Gents could you help me :bow
I wait with baited breath for your words of advice...:banghead

Hi, morning dude, :thumb2

Nah I wouldn't panic yet, first off, where are these electrical connectors? As a quick fix you could pack them full of grease and wrap in electrical tape.

You might find if a newer engine from a different model has been put in that some connections have been made obsolete :nenau

The leaky diff might be a little more involved but still with time I'm sure it's fixable.

I'm no mechanical master but a few of the guys on here are really good.

Welcome anyway, you'll find everyone here is very friendly too!

Essex ... hmmmm , you are in rick's ( solarman 216 ) country :thumb2

Post some pics of the wires. 12v systems are not so prone to shorting out frm water, so it may not be a problem.

The unipart oil filter is a lot smaller than the others, which my local car part place supplied me once. Fitted and seemed fine just a lot smaller in diameter.

sent from my phone, sorry for any typo's.

A few of the guys... only a few...:doh
Just because it's your birthday today, you're not getting away with that lol...

:birthday:birthday:beer

Back to original post, welcome to the site.
The rear diff, which area is the leak, prop shaft area, wheel area, ie via brake drum, or gasket etc?

Best regards,
Rustic

The reason you have spare connectors is due to the engine swap & it's prob using the older type mechanical fuel pump to get around all the wiring hassles that would come from changing over the ECU's & the 2.7 engine has far less sensor aswell I would just tape up the ends & cable tie them out of the way:thumb2 not sure which oil filter they have used but there is prob a makers name & part No on the filter which any good car parts place will be able to cross reference & also tell you what vehicle it was meant for. As for the oil leak it'll depend on which axle it has & where it's leaking from

I know little about Navs, but if you can take a pic and post it of the diff leak we should be able to help, as for the connection blocks not used it is standard practice for Nissan to fill them with grease and cable tie them out of harms way, welcome by the way, Rick

Wait a minute, does this mean I got something right

Quick fix for leaky diff can be check breather not blocked, my Isuzu breather went from diff to floorpan and had some strange valve in the end after I took it wading a few times the rear diff started leaking, I cut the valve thing off and extended breather up to under bonnet, diff stopped leaking.
Worth checking the breather is clear as such an easy fix if not.

Kind regards

Russell.

Hi Thank you and the others for their replies.
the electrical plugs in the engine bay are going to be taped up for now and cable tied out of the way.
the leek in the diff is the input seal from the rear prop shaft and I will keep an eye on it for now.
will try and put pics onto this site for you to give me your ideas on how to deal with it myself and keep the cost down.
The engine looks to be mechanical diesel pump and a vacuum pipe to the turbo activator which gives a bit of a lag before the turbo kicks in. sounds like a disco but I don't care I love it and can't wait to make some improvements.

Once again thank you for all your advice.

Look on the bright side, if it is all old skool and mechanical it means you can tune it easily :sly
