Welcome to our Community.

I have not had a Terrano for the last 3 years. We now have a Jeep but am still here. A very helpful bunch of people as you will find if/when you become a full member.

I have picked up no end of tips on here even for our Jeep not to mention general DIY stuff!

So about to hopefully purchase my first Terrano today.

Having never bought a car privately should I be asking for a receipt or is it a waste of time? Anything else I should be doing?

Obviously sorting tax and insurance.

It doesn't hurt, just write something out with his name, address , reg and price on and both sign it.

Happy to be educated on this, but I'm sure that this is exactly what caveat emptor is designed for.
You, as the buyer, have the opportunity to satisfy yourself that all is good and if you have any doubts- walk.
A receipt will just confirm that the seller has received money in exchange for the vehicle, so worth it for just this. As a seller I'd want to make it perfectly clear when the buyer picked the car up, especially with so many anpr cars about.
When I bought mine, the dealer didn't have service history, but the car started fine and ran fine with nothing to hint at problems. In nearly 4 years there haven't been except for a flat battery.
Good luck and enjoy the car.

When ever I have sold a car privately which I not alot of times. I have always photo copied/written out two copies of a receipt saying sold by/to with the above info on it including date.
The other info I have also added was the time of selling. So if the person who bought it takes it for a excited spin and gets caught on a speed camera or two and I get the tickets I have a signed copy showing the time we exchanged the vehicle. Also works in reverse and helps protect them if I had a excited spin before selling.

I would always want a receipt of some sorts and with a time on it.

well i've only gone and bloody done it.

Now the proud owner of a Terrano.

Granted she's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but a work in progress if you would.

welcome

Welcome to the madhouse

Great bunch of people and very helpful, I personally have saved thousands with good advice and access to parts.
Highly recommend Solarman216, top bloke and CNCfabs for parts.

But everybody will chip in with help, advice and humour

enjoy

Hey that looks good, black wheels suit it, the bumper doesn't look too bad, you should be able to affect some sort of repair on it :thumb2

I'm not a fan of grey black wheels but it's each to their own. A nice looking truck though, like the grey bodywork.
I reckon remove whole bumper, unclip the plastic cover from the reinforcement and then set too with the fibre glass to fix the bumper.

Decision made, I'm now going for the lowered, 20" black gangsta look. Bro!
Word.

I like it. Don't worry about the bumper. Get some miles on it. Enjoy it for a couple of weeks and iron out any faults you find. Then if you still love it, get the bumper sorted. :thumbs

So drove to my mates last night from purchase and he gave it a quick once over and said it looked good.

Did about 25 miles last night without issue. It will be used daily for commuting until I get my company van.

Couple things I noticed, passenger visor is broken, doesnt stay up.

Is/can this be fixed easily? Or is it time to replace it?

Was just gonna get sticky velcro and use that to bodge a fix just now.

Couple bits are looking tatty, drivers seat started to wear a bit, gear knobs a bit grubby.

Drives nice, just need to get used to the gear ratios and sweet spots for changing etc.

Needs a spare tyre sorted and put back on the rear door.

Swap the gearknob for an earlier plastic one rather than the threaded up ones that just fall apart

Are those easy to find?

Been using it for work around Edinburgh today. Its not bad in the city.

Will pack the kids into it in the next few weeks and hopefully get the weather to hit the beach.

Hard to tell from the photo but if you are going to leave the cracked bumper for a little while it may be worth drilling a small hole at the end of the crack. This will help stop the crack from growing through vibration and friends going "bumpers cracked" then as they always seem to do pushing on it just to check their eyes aren't lying :)

I expect you know but just incase. Do not use the 4x4 on hard ground as the rear wheels need to slip when cornering so need loose ground to do so.
If you did not get the user manual then paying the £10 gives you access to one on here I believe....think it is there anyway. Others' can confirm...hopefully :)

They are good on long runs too :thumb2

thanks for the advice Thomas, will have a closer look at it this weekend.

It has had holes drilled and cable tied together.

Will not doubt be signing up for the members area on here as you guys have been great already.

It's very much worth it for the download section alone :thumb2

Just drive it and enjoy it:thumbs

Mind you think about oil and fluid changes to be on the safe side. Rear diff oil is a important fluid to keep in good order, needs proper Limited Slip Diff oil not gear oil.
