Hi Knotting,

"3. They must be unlocked when on the hard stuff " as long as you have selected 2wd all that is happening is the front wheels are turning the transfer box when the hubs are locked. The only thing that will happen is you can feel it holding back ever so slightly and you use more fuel. I regularly lock mine for a short trip to keep the transmission free running. I also don't go above 50mph with the hubs locked, as far as I'm aware that is the max speed when 4wd is engaged but I've been told it doesn't matter when in 2wd. When the hubs are unlocked speed doesn't matter other than road speed limits.

See Ya
Jim

WE got a couple of inches of the white stuff and it's still coming down.

well we have been night lineing all week on gravel rock and mud . sadly all very hard stuff due to being frozen also we have been driving tarmac country lines. albeit no faster than 30 mph, i guess each trip was about 30 - 40 miles but we could only do it in 4wd or we'd be dead

nothing broken yet .

should we stop playing ?

Well I'm back home, Dewsbury in West Yorkshire was a traffic jam. Noticed a smell of hot clutch but I'll start a thread on that. On the way home when I got onto estate type roads where it was thick sluch it was great to keep slipping it in and out of 4wd and had no probs whilst others were sliding all over

Hi Jim.

Thanks for this, I see what you mean about slipping into 2wd now

I have only ever been on 3 greenlane days and so still consider myself a Novice. Each time I exited the slippy stuff I disengaged 4wd and reversed to unlock my auto hubs...I now realise that I did not need to unlock the hubs.

I also drove as much as possible in 2wd on these days and was surprised at just how little I actually needed 4wd.

Ok This is the end of this thread
UNN leSSS you want to keep it going for other people who will come along and want to read it :?:

Hey Willow, my manual hubs worked a treat today.

Jim T

PS we can't let this thread go to the archives:thumb2

Ok then a quick update on the manuel hubs.

There great lots of mud on my holding and not got stuck once:thumb2:thumb2

I leave it in the locked in 4 wheel drive while I am on the land so know need to keep jumping in and out to change it. Then I put it back into 2 wheel drive when I go onto the road.

I took it on its longest trip since i have had it yesterday 200miles.
Had to hitch it up to a pig trailer and get some pigs moved for a friend.
They were in a very muddy field and the terrano did the job no problem.
My friend now wants one:thumb2

Have not looked back since fitting the hubs cheers boys:clap:bow

Hey Wendy just wait till you forget to put those hubs in 4wd and have to get out in the mud:lol

Hope you tell your friend about this web site full of nutters:thumbs
