I have ordered one of these and it will be on a slow boat from China. But it's cold, in the meantime in theory I could use one from the scrap dealers (aka environment friendly recyclers).
Just to speed up the process, could I just hook up a recyclable resistor prospect to the now dangling harness and check to see if there is some function? Screwing the resistor into place is just for security?

pull the resistor off and join the two outside connectors on the plug together and you will have full speed fan, this is for the later flat plate resistor if it is the older coil type I do not have one to look at but same thing just join wires till the fan runs, Rick

Thanks solarman, it's the flat plate type.
It's full speed fan from now on, until the new resistor arrives.

Full speed works without the resistor plugged in at all :thumb2

China :nenau for £19.00 and at this time of year a good buy.

Thanks for that link but unfortunately does not post to Iceland.

With this particular item, the few UK based sellers that do condescend to offer a cheapo air mail option for an intl. sale, tend to be £10 higher than that price, plus an add-on £12 charge for filling out one of customs decl. green sticker labels. Then local duties compounding that cost.
Out of principle (very high moral standard indeed ;)) I'll patiently wait for the package from China (Euro 13) and blow hot air at full speed in the meantime.

Sounds like a plan to me :thumb2

The fan had only worked at top speed, then it stopped working altogether.
I took out the resistor and it looked very guilty.
With Fez's post in mind, I tested it to see if top speed worked, alas it didn't. I checked the fuses and both blower fuses 2 x15 amp had blown. I replaced them and now can get top fan speed with no resister connected.
The resistor is still guilty though, it looks perfect except for that blob.

BTW, just because I can type the word resistor, does not mean I have a clue what it's about.

My mistake I did not check your location (lack of caffeine)
I did repair mine by soldering a new wire to bridge the blown section for a temp fix until I got a replacement :nenau

Apparently it is considered a fire risk bridging the blown section. We used to have a how to guide but it was removed for that reason. However as you have done I have bridged one in the past and got away with it. I have also worked with people in the past who have done that as a permanent fix. I guess it's personal choice isn't it. I suspect the blob is a surface mount fuse and maybe replaceable but I hate surface mount components as they tend to disintegrate with too much heat.

I've seen someone repair a resistor in a similar fashion before and it melted, it worked for a few weeks and then randomly my pal would be driving his car and would smell burning, took him ages to click that it must have been his dodgy solder job :lol

Ahh Banshee odd smells in cars, it's a mystery where they come from:lol

Yeah like I said at the beginning it is a Fire Risk, there is a surprising amount of current drawn by the heater motor and theres a reason why the resistor is in the airflow.

I don't think the original fuse actually blows, it seems to be corrosion probably caused by the damp air from the outside world.

That alternative item has a much more impressive name.

"Why is the blower fan not working properly?"
"Oh I just need to install a
12V-40V 10A Pulse Width Modulation PWM DC Motor Speed Control Switch Governor"

The new resistor (aka, Pulse Width Modulation PWM DC Motor Speed Control Switch Governor) took 2 weeks to arrive, all told.
Estimated arrival time was Feb 20 - March 14

Blower Motor resistor
Nissan Frontera, Xterra, Sentra, 271502M105

cost GBP 9.35 plus Intl postage GBP 1.60
Item info said it was made and located in China,
It was very well packed, inside a box which was inside of a strong jiffy bag,
and works as it should.
This thread is a wrap.

Excellent I was thinking of saying something with the words, blow and job in the sentence, but I couldn't think of anything that was simply funny with out being rude. lol. You should get a good blow after finishing that job lol..:thumb2 best I can do. lol

What we need on this forum is an index of parts like this, and where to get them from.
Could this be a down load, as most of us know, searching for stuff on here is quite difficult, I have a knack, but still takes time.
