it would be interesting to photo the injectors and plugs, and then again after 100 miles on svo and see if there is any obvious changes? your thoughts?

Yeah defo :thumbs

I wish I'd photo'd the old stuff :doh especially the glow plugs as they looked like they'd been touched

Adz, i'm too much of a coward to do all this fuel experimenting, so hats off to you for giving it a go and not being embarrased to come back and tell us all the ups and downs depsite the critiscism you sometimes face.

you're our test pilot mate :thumbs

Thank-you :thumbs

I unfortunatley don't believe unless i try it  :doh

I'm trying that out at the mo. I have to say the engine does seem smoother though it may be me wanting it to :D

One thing I cocked up on bearing in mind the talk on here about red diesel, I lobbed the two stroke in (I think it was auto lubes finest ;) ) and then noticed the colour of it.................bright red :doh

I'll take a pic of mine during the week as i have 2 clear inlinr filters & yes it makes it red ok :lol

Mine definitely runs better in the sense that it seems smother :nenau

From the rebuild i done its still on pump diesel with 1 litre of 2 stroke oil & petrol to thin out the sun flower oil...
I'm down to 1/2 a tank & done over 200 miles  :D

Here's the pic

any one see anything i should do.. as in have i missed any thing.
YES, whater side will do tomorrow afternoon

planning on doing this myself very soon - just wondering what size diameter's the fuel pipe and heater pipes are? - i'm assuming this is where your running the coolant from.

the only thing i've been recommended was to put some form of lagging on the fuel lines to keep the heat in - can get stuff from most diy places for it

will

hi bud fuel line is 8mm

yep got that in hand for the lagging. heater pipes dont know yet as was sucking in to much are as teh PTFE tape didnt work, so getting so proper sealer later this week ive taken it all out now for a clean up before u ise the sealer. will post more pics as i get further along.

where are you getting you heat exchanger from?

i got my heat exchanger from ebay - it's similar to your but all inlets/outlets are on the same side - it's from a combi boiler.

not fitting mine unitl i done the water pump as its leaking a bit

will

ill keep you posted.

got meself some proper jointing compound tonight.

so if dry will refit it all back this weekend.

WIll try http://www.oilybits.com/ tell him steve sent you with the T2.. hel has ALL the bits youll ever need. and KNOWS his stuff..

TBH its a fag though and not really necessary - there are plenty on here (me included) that have run decent ratios of SVO with no modification at all. If you ever get an issue its with lumpy running at start up when you exceed 50/60% SVO in lower ambient temperatures and a heated filter isn't going to fix that because it takes a while to warm up. The proprietary ones you buy have a stat in anyway, and come either as a simple glowplug-based heater or the more sophisticated type that circulates coolant from the engine to maintain heat and cuts the glowplug out when that coolant reaches temperature.

Despite what anybody on this thread says, unless you want to run medium/high ratios of SVO in the very coldest winter months, all this stuff is pointless - and neither will a diesel/SVO mix do your engine any harm......plenty of folks with serious SVO mileage under their belts to prove it.

Remember these engines are seriously old diesel technology with none of your fancy common-rail or other modern stuff and will run on all sorts of shite. With advice from a couple of petrochemical scientist friends/relations I've regularly added anything from acetone, methylated spirits and white spirit through to neat alcohol to assess their (always positive) effect on performance and fuel economy with zero ill-effects. :naughty

Just an update,

Now 5 years later

Still running svo

Loving the savings l!

Yes I've had problems, nothing to do with eco running, just timing of adding diesel and new glow plugs
