Heres one for you all been playing with my 1972 Landrover thats been in my Barn for years, the lights are bright but if i put the left indcator the brake lights flash also.turn the indicator off and put the foot on the Brake and the brake lights come on as normal but the indicator come on as well but does not flash.:doh Laurie.

Sounds like you have a poor earth point on either the brake ir indicators.

Common to have "iffy" earths on Landys i'm afraid. A mate of mine has a Series 3 and has had "issues" with the wiring very similar to your problem.

Yeah defo a bad earth, not just landy's that suffer this problem.

the curent is finding it own way.. i.e. through the other bulb.

I reckon fault already diagnosed.

I would suggest considering the symptoms its well beyond a quirt of wd40. I would head straight to, disconnect and clean or replace the rear cluster earth (as already suggested by midlander :thumb2 ) Ive rarely found any other cause than that for the symptoms you describe

To add my 2 pence worth, deff poor earth.
And a possible reason that no one has mentioned..:thumbs

We had a Ford Sierra once and that did the same, that was the connector that linked onto the galvanized tracking that made up the circuit board.
Clean the contacts, put some vaseline on them...
Job done.
So yours is deff bad earth.

Reason: Aluminium corrodes, and becomes an insulator
eg Anodized aluminium doesn't conduct on the surface. :doh

A squirt of WD40 or a touch of copper grease should work just as well.

I have been thinking - don't laugh! On these very old vehicles would running a decent sized cable from the battery negative right down the length of the underside and then attaching the various earths to it be a good idea? to eliminate all the little earthing niggles :nenau

Like a Data Bus...I think that's a good idea.
might be a PITA to extend and run all the individual circuit -ves to, but, like you say, it would eliminate all the corrosion breaks.
Dunno how bigger cable you'd need tho', I guess you'd need to do some calculations regarding the current.

thanks all for your inputs i have had all the bulbs out today cleaned and wd them as i took out each bulbs there was no change ie brake lights flashing at the same time as n/side indicator.all earth wires at the rear unpluged and cleaned or new domonos fitted same at the front. ran a wire from the battery earth to all the earth wires at each light still no differance:doh

I had this problem on a couple of cars back in the 1970's it was a faulty stop & tail lamp bulb that was a new replacement.

If you have 21W/7W or 18W/5 W twin contact bulbs try new bulbs but make sure they are a good make or ones you know are OK.
