hand brake light

wont go out checked switch all ok. clicking coming from relays when u operate it. tryed unpluging them 1 by1 no joy ... getting the arse with it, , , HELP. bad earth ?,

are you certain the light refers just to the handbrake , and does not indicate a brake problem like some models ?

have you checked brake fluid etc ?

mine was OK, but when I turned sharp the brake light came on..


BUT showed OK when I looked, just needed a LITTLE bit more in

Disconnect plug on top of the fluid resevoir and see what happens.

1 It could be a faulty connection.
2 It could be a faulty float switch.

Take a minute that's all:thumb2

Are u sure brake fluid is not a bit low? And how are brake shoes / pads? (Don't think light will stay on if shoes / pads are low but if cylinder pistons are at full stretch you might get light coming on on some vehicles)

On my R3mR the handbrake light also warns if there is a brake servo fault - usually a vacuum hose has rotted.

Check the vacuum pipes near the brake servo and look for a T piece with a short small pipe that has a vacuum switch with wiring connector to it close to the bulkhead.

Its in the small print of the owners manual if you have the correct one for your model year.

have you tried rocking the car from side to side to see if the light goes out ? ... on my old mistral even a tiny drop of brake fluid added turned the light off

One guy recently had a new exhaust fitted and he was not getting vacuum at the servo, handbrake indicator light was on I think, I suggested that if there was any welding in that area ( new exhaust, new welded stud) then the spatter could have perforated the vac pipes.

This was the problem, job sorted. :thumb2

It might also be that there isn't any vacuum al all, but you would notice brake issues, ie harder to press the pedal, poor braking etc.
